Recurring Dream

Since I can remember, I've had this dream where I lock up and can't move. It's always the same thing. I see something, become "paralyzed", and sit there fighting like mad to move again.
Sometimes I'm in a car and become frozen, then see a huge fucking truck coming my way. Sometimes I'm in like Africa or something, see a lion, and freeze up while he jumps at me. Last night I had a dream where I was asleep in my room, woke up only to see this faint grey eyes in the corner of my open closet....then tried like hell to move but couldn't.
Anything this type of dream really has to do with...strees, fear over something ect?... It has really increased over the last week or 2, (me and my girl broke up about that long ago now that I think about it)....but I highly doubt that has anything to do with it...since it's been happening for years, and we ended it on good terms.
la la blah

AFAIK (and i'm no expert, just getting this through shallow research and other knowledge in related fields), but paralysis (especially during dreams) is linked to feelings of helplessness or being unable to act on a situation. If paralysis only occurs in situations where you are in harm, it could mean you feel helpless in stopping your own downfall in some way (the truck scenario especially conveys this)
In a more real-life sense, this could be something like a job concern (you feel like you're getting fired, but can't stop), a run-in with family or friends that you have been avoiding (leading you to vent some of this frustration through dream), or things along those lines (i don't know you, so i can't pinpoint this at all)
Usually, I find, stress will cause you to sleep lightly, which in turn helps you remember dreams -- on the other hand, stress may be the cause of these particuarly disturbing dreams, prompting them to be memorable.
Look outside other areas of stressors, not just the conventional. How's work or school? Looking for a promotion/raise/movement, or expecting?/ Is your course or degree leading you anywhere?

I very often dream that I am supposed to go somewhere and bring something to someone, but I have always lost that item (it can be a key, or a bag with some stuff in it or whatever, mostly just everyday items). Often I spend a large part of the dream looking for that thing, often not finding it at all before waking up, and if I do actually find it, I never manage to get to the place where I'm supposed to go anyway. I wonder what that means?
Often there are also zombies involved, and I dream regularly that me (and sometimes a couple of people I know) are trying to go somewhere, but we always need to stock up on guns and food before we go because of all the zombies roaming the streets.

Fetish.

that's not fair, i keep dreaming about bloody motorways, dreaming about zombies would be cool. i remember the last zombie dream i had. it probably meant something, but the best part was the zombies.

I've had the same recurring dreams over the years, too. I've dreamed about being paralyzed when I want to walk/run but can't move my legs. I've also dreamed about being in these same big houses/mansions. These two are by far my most recurring dreams
I notice that I tend to dream only when there's not a lot going on in my life (or at least when I feel that way). When I'm tired or under stress, I usually sleep pretty tight :icon30:

Is it a bad mansion ('haunted' or has a bad feeling about it), or is it thought of as spacious, fake, etc.
most always in dreams it's less important what the object or setting is on a macroscopic scale, and more important how it "feels" or what thoughts are associated.
such as: with the 'grey eyes' borke posted, i had a recurring character in my dreams (day and night) who was largely unimportant in his appearance, but he had brilliant blue eyes and always died somehow, but i felt no remorse or bad feelings about his death -- although the situation was something to cause alarm, it "felt" alright.
Funny about your sleeping better when you're stressed, I only sleep very well when I have been able to not worry about anything, or after i've been able to meditate for a while.

Sounds like helplessness, control issues, etc. as glossy said.
Or you're having premonitions about your impending stage 4 ass-cancer diagnosis.

I've had that happen in real life. Running across the street at about 8 years old I did not look.
A car screeched to a stop, and it's bumper touched my leg. I froze for what seemed like an eternity. My legs, arms and head could not move.
then I sptinted off as soon as they started working again.

I too dream about zombies occasionally, but it never ends well

a buddy of mine has a thery, and thus far has worked out for him..
if he has a dream 3 times, 3 nights in a row. it will happen..
he Said one day for me to look out when i am making a left turn in my car. later on that day, my car started taking a turn, then decided to go straight into a snowbank. but that still freaks me out.

They're mostly nice and opulent houses, the sort of houses that very rich people live in. I'd keep walking from room to room to check the houses out. The funny thing is that in the recurring dreams, I'd know the floor plans of the houses already, so I could go to any room at will right away. And I am never alone in these house dreams. Sometimes my family members would be with me. At other times, there would be strangers. I'm not sure what my feelings really are when walking in these houses; perhaps only feelings of curiosity and wondering why I'm in such nice and big houses and whether or not they're my houses.
I don't think any of my house dreams is scary, but some of my paralysis dreams can be scary. Sometimes I'd dream about seeing people in harms way, but when I try to save them, my legs don't seem to want to move, and it's not like I can't move at all, it's just that I can't move quickly. It's the same when I dream about the need to get away from someone or something dangerous, only to find out that I can move only at a snail's pace.
I guess I sleep better when I'm under stress or having lots of things on my mind, because my brain is already overworked, so it really wants to rest. On the other hand, if I'm in a carefree mode, my brain likes to wonder off (so to speak), and hence the dreams. Make sense?

also look up sleep paralysis. Not sure if it's already been mentioned here don't have time to read whole thread.
basically during certain phases of sleep your body shuts off part of the nervous system so you can't move muscles i think.
sometimes you are semi conscious during this state and it can be terrifying.
there are also consistent reports of the feeling of terror in the room, and/or pressure on chest.
here's a classic image associated with the phenomenon:

When I was about 7 or 8, I ran toward a taxi that was waiting for us at the intersection, when a guy on a motorcycle suddenly turned into the corner and hit me on the forehead. To this day, I could still remember the sight of that chrome horn on the front of that motorcycle before it hit me. Afterwards, all I could see was a sea of red as my tears mixed with the stream of blood gushing down from my forehead. It was only about an inch cut but pretty deep, so it required some stitches. I felt pretty dizzy and slept for the rest of the day.

oh yeah, I also forgot to say in my first post this morning that once I saw those eyes I couldn't move...guess waking up a few hours early can do that to you.
