My new best round of golf...

...is a 64, shot today on a par 70.

Mr.Luck was definitely on my side for a lot of the round and the golf gods seemed to be guiding every putt I hit into the hole, especially those that were for par saves.

I don't think I could even shoot a 64 on Tiger Woods golf...heh.

And I thought today was going to be a disaster, as I hit the ball like dogshit on the range yesterday.

Maybe playing like shit freed you up just to play a bit more naturally because you were expecting less, that kind of thing.

i am beyond jealous of you sir. its been raining here for 8 straight days, plus i have no means of getting to a golf course now that I'm back at Boston College. Ah well

that's probably a big part of it....
I was pretty nervous playing the last 3 holes though..

Some nerves are good though I suppose, just depends how bad they get. Or you were just in the zone, all good either way.

It's all about flowing with your emotions...not fighting or suppressing them...i read some book called "Zen golf" that talked about shit like this (sports psychology stuff) - how if you feel doubt or nervousness coming up, you shouldn't try to totally supress it, but rather ride it out like a wave until it passes...
There are a lot of technical/mechanical aspects of the game of golf that I need plenty of work on, but I can hit pretty much every shot (draws, fades, punches, flops, bump and runs, etc, etc, etc...) that you need to in order to score on the courses I play. It's just a matter of being able to hit those shots when you need to. Today I was able to do just that.

nice dude. all that makes sense. you can be as technically good as ever but without the mental, it just won't happen.

i broke par on 9 holes the other day(no time for 18) for the first time. 35 1 under. it definitely got the par monkey off my back.

18holes and par is next, probably tomorrow.

Yea - I had a long discussion with some people about going from a low handicap to a no handicap. A big part of it is mental confidence. Right now i am a 3.5 handicap. To get to that point you've got to be able to hit most of the shots. But to get to a 0 or below handicap, you've got to have the mental toughness to know that when things start going bad...when you havea double bogey or whatever, that your game is strong enough to come back. My old man is still about a 0 handicap and he is 56. You'll play a round with him and it will look like he is playing shitty - he'll bogey a stretch of 3 holes, be 3 over after 5 holes or something, but at the end of the day he is even par....he just doesn't quit. Same thing applies when you are having a good round. the scratch golfer, when he is -5 coming into the 16th hole, is probably thinking about going even lower. if I am -5 going into 16, I am thinking "shit, this could be a career round...don't fucking blow it." leading to tentative play, trying to steer the ball around, and generally fucking up.

But once you've broken the barrier, once you've broken par a few times, you KNOW you can do it and you become more and more confident in situations because you feel more trust in your ability.

But it is always ebbing and flowing...some days you've got it, other days you dont. I actually have had fears abuot one day going to the course and suddenly not being able to hit the ball period...like just losing the entire game overnight.

like briney baird the other day when he shot -10(62). duffs a 3 wood into the rough then he dead shanks it from the rough with an iron.

came back fucking big time though.

I hope you die getting hit by lightning on the 18th hole...right in front of everyone....and the electrical shock gave you a woodie..showing everyone how pathetically small your fully erect penis is....and the last thing you hear as the life seeps out of you will be the laughter of the other golfers.

....and then...right at the last instant of life...someone's tee shot hits you in the sack.

I shot a 46 I think it was on Tiger woods 2005 :D The final score was -28.

As for real golf I've managed to Par 1 hole, once in my lifetime. It was a par 3. :p

But I will have still died having shot a 64.

So out of all the comments here, out of GKY's disturbingly vivid and thought-out rant about me dying like that....its a 'go coming' bit that gets you upset?

hehe.

BTW - GKY, that scenario, it sounds like you've fantasized about that a bit. You've probably simulated the entire thing on the computer with the Far Cry engine or something...right?

That's realy 'kewl' TNF. Nice one.

Thanks Pauly. I'm the duhard of the golf course, crushing egos 1 at a time, or 50 at once...doesn't matter.

Unless of course I play like shit and get my own ego and wallet crushed.
