Its gonna suck harder than a dyson.... the single player from what I have heard anyways..... as for the multiplayer.... Juries out till I've seen/heard/felt how the game plays.

i'm not sure, i dont think it will have anyware near the same comunity that quake 3 does, we have anyware from hardcore 1 on 1 people... all the way to Trickjumpers ( I.e. Me )

and these are things that are only going to partially be in the big 4, ( Ofcorse 1 on 1 will be there ) But the ammount of skill and know how will be changed..

one of the main Reasons that i can get out of people from there frusteration when it comes to quake 3 is that the Game itsself is So simple, there are no hidden things, or know how.. anyone can play it..

but once you hit the online world, you are Fucked.. litterly.

this is a trend that i see that Game Company's are getting out of ( I.e. See unreal... ) they are making the Gameplay have a little of a learning courve in reguards to wep's and moves that the player can do with a Scripted event. But in all reality.. for what?!

Anyway, this is just like the first time i played UT2004, i joined some random server, Got the Feel for it, knew nothing other then the RL.. And got banned from the server for cheating. wtf?

anyway, Hopefully i will eat these words when its released. But i have a feeling it will be no ware as hardcore or beter yet, simplistic as quake 3 is.

all in all, i cant wait to see if im wrong ( hopefully ) or if im right.

You know, for a while I was preety excited about the release date, and I was looking forward to buying it. However, latelly I've noticed the following things:

1) It's "cool" to hate id games
2) The game has little to no hype (good? bad?)
3) The game has gotten a poor review from pc gamer(see 1)
4) Most game magazines are full of shit (see 3)

In conclusion, there is nothing out there that's pushing me either way. I might just pick it up as a way of saying "thanks" for all the other games I've played through the years and simply to support the companies.

edit: oh, and no bots is a huge turn off. What the fuck!?Anyways, all I wish for is for there to be a populated community and players.

Man, I don't really want to start a UT vs Quake debate (although it might be fun...how long has it been since we had a healthy one? :D ) but that's pure bullshit.

I've played Q3 at a moderately competitive level (Both on the Interbutt and at organised LANs), and likewise I've played UT (Original and 2004) at a competitive level too. The patterns are the same, the learning curves are just as steep in both games. Why? Because both games have players who play for hours and hours every day, both games have organised clans, leagues, tournaments. In the end we could be talking about Tetris or Pong, and dependant on the amount of time your opponent has put into the game determines how badly you'll get your pixellated ass handed to you.

The difference you personally saw, I'll say from experience, is that UT2004 has a much wider player base than Q3. For starters, UT2004 right now is maybe 18 months old, and you're comparing that to Q3 which is like 5. All the noobs for Q3 have gone and all that's left are the dedicated players, UT2004 still has a very fresh player base. It's no wonder you're able to compete online in UT2004, because you're up against a wider spectrum of players.

BTW for UT2004, you'll find most of the higher skill players use private servers or pickup games. It's a general culture I've noticed with UT games. Get on IRC and get into a few public pickups, and that's a proper initiation :icon32:
