the games that are being released at the moment..... that is until I played them..... dont get me wrong not ALL are shit. But where did the days of TA, Red Alert, Quake and such like, games that inspired a generation, where did those type of games go exactly?

Why am I not inspired anymore?

Is it me? or is my partnership with games coming to and end like a drawn out relationshp? You know the one where you still see each other every other night of the week, still care for her but ultimately just cant fuck her anymore.

Is it the end?

Oddly I agree with you.

I've been uninterested in games for a while now. I used to spend hours, passionately fighting on to the next level.

I think it's a combination of maturing and decreasing game quality. It is more about quantitative features than gameplay these days.

Yeah same here, I'm all about the next revolutionary game. That's what get's me going again, they just seem to have a small dive in quality every so often depending on how dated the technology is. Seems to come and go with the consoles actualy, as soon as a new revolutionary console is released then the computer games seem to ramp up.

I experienced similiar things:

I was looking forward to MoO 3. It was not that good.

I was looking forward to Final Fantasy X. It was not that good.

I was looking forward to HL 2. It was not that good.

I was looking forward to Fable. It was not that good.

I was looking forward to WoW. It was not that good.

The last game i bought that actually was worth it's price was Warcraft 3 and TFT.

there are not enough 2d games. Everyone thinks that 3d environments are THE ONE THING... personally, i miss stuff like metroid.

Most of the awesome games are made in Japap today but they never hit the market in the US or, even worse, europe.

They fucked it up when they went and released TA-Kingdoms (some mystical piece of shit that went and took it from robots to "dragons" and men with bows and arrows....... exciting)

90% of what you feel about thous games are Nostalgia, play them again and you will see all the problems with them.

It's just people are bored, there are still a ton of games online that are good.

Some newer games worth playing online -> CS:S/HL2, WoW, Guild Wars.

I remember playing original C&C on Westwood Studios, fun times.

Gimme Super mario over mario 64/sunshine ANY day of the week

give me sonic over sonic adventure ANY day of the week

Give me Metal Slug x or Contra spirits over any 3-d derivative ANY day of the week

Although I couldnt go back and play those games I would prefer if they ramped them up to a sort of Viewtiful Joe Style of things...... 3-d but 2 -d gameplay

[FTF]Pyro: Funny you mention TA, I never played before this year and when I played it I thought it was complete shit. Probally because it's just so old.

Starcraft imo is the best strategy game.

meh apparently TA 2 is coming out....

and your right man.... TA would be utter shit to play now. Its too old. I dont want to go back and play OLD games I dont want to go back at all.

I want people to make new games that inspire me as much as the old ones did.

TA when it was released in 1997 kept me up most nights, I played over a lan everynight with my dad. It was GREAT fun. Same goes for Quake 3. It inspired me. It brought out new things I never had even thought about before. Online play and all that kind of stuff. It was fun. It didnt try and tell a story it just, PLAYED.

I want a game that will do that for me again.

The reason I mentioned TA on here is that Black and White 2 is just basically that game except none of the fun. Beast = Commander that can destroy all lower level units without too much hassle (Unless you spam bomb them with everything you got) but it takes the fun out of things by adding too much complexity like managing fucking the NPC too much.

I dont mind building Fields and housing and stuff. But when you gotta tell a man and a woman to breed. Or tell the farmers to move fields in order to reap a good enough harvest. ..... I dont want to micro manage..... thats why they have AI

I think it's mostly nostalgia, really. Guaranteed 10 years from now today's younger players will start saying how everything went downhill after Halo 2,The Sims, GTA San Andreas, or whatever shitty games kids play nowadays.

Yaaaaarghhhh, now I'm mad. :icon33: I think I'm gonna go play some Quake, Warcraft 2, Day of the Tentacle and Wing Commander, not necessarily in that order. :icon33:

It's because every game does the same fucking thing. That's why I'm hooked on my DS because it's finally something different.

there's nothing wrong with honing a genre that's already been defined, maybe that's what quake4 will do, maybe it's what TA2 will do.

..but these days it's all about the eye candy and the console versions. it doesn't matter if your sp is short and uninspiring. it doesn't matter if your game's buggy and unreliable. it doesn't matter if the mp's a laggy, unsatisfying shitfest. all that matters is that your game looks nice and makes any system that cost less than £700 run like dragging a mattress through wet cement.
