Time to dump Cingular and move to a new carrier...

My two years of a dysfunctional relationship with cingular are now up, and I am free at last to leave their dogshit service that routinely dropped calls in the middle of places like:
downtown seattle,
downtown portland,
downtown almost anywhere cingular covers.
sooo...now for the decision. Who to go with?
How many of you use Verizon, and are they worth a shit?

Yea, I used Cingular for a two year contract as well. I dumped them the day after my contract expired. I also had dropped calls or no signal, in places like downtown, right around major business districts, and even my house, which is 3 miles from downtown.
Here in Nashville Verizon has great service. They are also about to introudce their wireless broadband service that will let you hook up a laptop or PC to your phone and get a decent speed internet connection. I think Verizon is going places.
Sprint is also a good carrier here, which is what I have. I'm happy with my phone, service, and the package I paid for, and I don't have any of the reception problems I had with Cingular.

Did you get the thing where you'd go from 5 bars to 0 bars in the span of about 2 feet in a metropolitan area...pretty much all the time? I was always dancing around the street trying to keep my bars up.
the worst was when a fucking call would drop, and you wouldn't know, so you'd keep rambling for 2 minutes and then see that the call was over...

Yep, the exact same thing. For a while, I would think it was because I had moved the phone to a bad place or something. I would move around trying to find the sweet spot again, but never found it. It was almost like their towers just had built-in EMP's that would randomly shut down service for no reason. It was ridiculously frustrating.
I can remember times I was asking myself why I even paid for mobile service, because it was so unreliable I almost completely stopped using it. I couldn't tell people to call me when we would be downtown around the same time, because I couldn't be sure I'd get the call. A lot of my friends just gave up trying to call me. It turned into a running joke for a while, because nearly everybody else I knew had Sprint or Verizon.

What's bringing you to Nashvegas?
If you've got any free time while you're in town I'll show you what Southern hospitality really is.

I'm coming up with a co-worker to get one of the companies we bought on our corporate network. I'll be there on the 22nd I think and I'll be leaving 2 days later (Sunday).
