anyone played it?
had a crack at the random map earlier. looked pretty good, though nothing outstanding about the graphics. still the same old lack of roads or streets as in the earlier games, same old UI filling half the screen. and wtf happened to the idle villager button? a load of new features which i didn't really get, but clicked on the buttons anyway. and strange green flashes across the screen every few seconds.
doubt that i'll buy it tbh

Yeah it's good. The demo is more like a beta. They said they fixed something like 10k bugs since then. They also said they shrinked the UI. Also a lot of the standard options have to be turned on in the game options menu, like being able to see your population limit.

It's a great demo and should be a fantastic game. You simply need to spend some time with it to learn all the small features.

pop limit - that was another i couldn't figure out.
i thought the deal where military units pop out in groups of 5 was a bit gay too. i was slaughtering queen isabella of spain when suddenly about 15 more guys appeared out of nowhere and then another 15 etc
the whole home city thing i'd need to look into and read the readme past the first para to figure out. i just clicked stuff and stuff happened.
i liked how you didn't need to build storage pits etc to collect resources, and plantations and mills were good, though the infinite resource with worker cap was stolen straight from empire earth

The home city is like a persistent RPG character. you gain experience from pretty much everything you do like killing enemies, owning trading posts, or winning a game. Every time it levels up you can buy a card. Cards do different things, like give you some free villagers, or free military units. You can only use a certain amount of cards in a game, so you can build different decks depending on the map, or civilization you're facing. Like one map might have a bunch of Indians on it, so you might want to make a deck that benefits Indians, or on a water map you might want to build a deck that benefits your navy. Persistent home cities are in multiplayer too. Its a big part of the ESO component.

I didn't see it as being any different than chosing your God in Age of Mythology.

After every age you choose a leader or some shit, that doesn't have anything to do with the home city. I think you missed that part.

when you chose your God in AoM, you got to choose which enhancements or unit upgrades you got, some were good for offence/defence and some benifitted villagers. Each god had their own set mythological creatures too, and came with Godly power like a meteor storm or lightning bolt.

Ah I forgot about that. Yeah, those were all preset, and limited though. In this I think the max level of your home city is like level 60, so you have about 60 cards to choose from, but you can only use about 20 in a game. The demo only lets you go up to lvl 9.
