Over at the Doom 3 forums there was a guy that come up with a really cool idea to actualy create a level that would build itself in front of your eyes.
It is extremmly cool, and I watched it over and over.
There is also some cool music to go with the video.

Cool, but utterly pointless. I can think of some pretty cool maps that could be made that way.

What do you mean pointless?
Video gaming as a whole is pointless, right? =/

Ok, it's not pointless. It provides entertainment. Happy, Foo?

Saw this back when odium posted it and was rather disappointed.
Scripted animation in a level isn't exactly revolutionary.
Edit: I'm not saying it isn't cool, but it's not hype-worthy.

Ya but it must have taken a hell of a long time to put together all that script.
edit: on the message board post the author said he came up with the idea "yesterday", so I guess it didn't take that long after all

looks shit. They could at least do something semi-inventive with it, like a self-constructing/destructing walkway, or a constantly half-building, half-unbuilding room which provided functionality on top of looking cool.
that could have looked cool had it been more than a box, but had zero functionality.

Check out DM-Reconstruct for UT2004. Wall and floor sections build and deconstruct when in proximity with a player.

Now that was a great map :icon14:
Well worth looking into if you have UT2004 installed
