According to a subscription-only story on the Wall Street Journal website, id software co-founder Adrian Carmack has filed a lawsuit against the Mesquite, Texas based developer following his dismissal from the company earlier this year. According to Carmack, he was fired by the other owners after he wouldn't take a $20 million buyout offer, and contends id turned down an acquisition offer from Activision just to get his shares for a lower price. This supposed Activision offer, made last year, offered id Software $90 million for the rights to Quake, DOOM and Wolfenstein and supposedly Activision was considering a $105 million bid for the entire company as well. According to the court filing, Carmack claims his share would've been 41%. Thanks Blues News.

Carmacks aren't related.

BTW for clarity:
The activision offer was 90mil.
Adrian asserts his stake was 41%.
He was offered 20mil for his stake.

If those 3 are all established, then it's clear that he was offered well under the value of his stake.

How can it be 41% out of 5 co-owners? AC, JC, and Cloud were co owners since the beginning right? shouldnt they at least have equal shares?

IIRC there's a pair of them with top control over the company.

Personally, the one member of id Software I thought could steer the company in a better direction. At least from my perspective as a game player.

Interesting...
Tho why would they have gotten rid of him??
And what will happen to id if Activision DO buy them out? :o

Activision hasn't done a bad job in the past imo, with what I have plade anyway. I don't see them doing a better job than the little id team...but I don't see this happening any time soon anyway.

edit: You at least have to say you would be more happy seeing Activision buy them than good 'ol EA. :/

one game out of many

...and to be a shity game, there are many below it.

Activision is a publisher. I don't think they work on games, they would just own the franchises, and lend them out to other developers to make the games for them.

Man, that is a shame. I was hoping it was just a rumor that Adrian was fired from id. Being (I suppose) the lead artist there at id, I'm afraid the games are now going to take on a more commercial look than previously.

Depends on who replaces him I guess.

Interesting, this could be the first warning signs to the breakup of id.

Naah, they didn't break up when Romero "left" either.

Activision even offered 105 mil for the entire company. 41% of 105mil is a whopping lot more than 20mil
