How does this game compare to Diablo 2 in terms of fun hacking and slashing?

Worth playing?

The game's mechanics are a lot better than the first, but there are several things that annoy.

Graphics, whilst good, aren't that much of an improvement over the first game.

There's no multiplayer only map with this game unlike the first, so once you've completed it, there's very little replay value.

To get more party members, you have to complete the game then play it again.
After having been treated to a full party (I think it was 6 and a donkey wasn't it?) in the first game, this one sets the maximum as 4 on the first playthrough, with no seperate slot for a pet, so when choosing what to have in your last party slot you are bound to choose another proper party member over a pet.
This really overshadows the improvements they've made to pets.

Once you HAVE unlocked the higher difficulty that allows more party members, you can't play it with a new character.
You have to play with the character you unlocked it with.
If you do want to play that difficulty with another character, you have to get the new character to complete the game first.

The camera is locked at the same angle as the first game, very irritating after experiencing the camera freedom in other games.

On the plus side, it's a good length, the new character powers are fun and interesting, blood and gore is excessive on a level comparable to the initial release of the first game (MS nerfed this shortly after release in the first one), and monster variety is nothing short of spectacular.

I'd suggest waiting for the price to drop before buying it TBH.

im playing through it in co-op with the missus

its 10 times the game DS1 was. it has NPCs with personalities, backstories and own sidequests, itemcreation, itemsets galore, loads of sidequests, skilltrees like in Diablo, multiclassing up to 4 classes.

great game, a lot of fun. some gameplay bugs appear in co-op (incantation shrines dont affect the entire party, for instance, just the playing using it :dork: ).

that said, you might want to wait till a price drop though. its a lot of fun, but im not sure if its worth its full price in singleplayer
