Too much vitamin C bad for you?

I just read the side of a carton of apple juice, and it says:

1 x 250ml serving contains your entire reccomended daily allowance of vitamin C. This pack contains 4 x 250ml servings.

I've drunk two cartons of today, and half a carton of orange juice as well as a couple of satsumas because I think I'm getting a cold and my mummy always told me to get lots of vitamin C to combat/prevent colds.

Can too much Vitamin C have any adverse effects?

Vitamin C lowers copper levels. Too much vitamin C, you end up with a deficiency of copper.

Weak bones long term, conjunctivitis short term. For starters.

Too much anything is bad for you. But you'll piss most of it out. It's the fat soluble vitamins you want to avoid too much of if I am not mistaken...

Doesn't vitamin C also affect calcium processing in some ways? I thought it could lead to increased chance of kidney stones and other kidney problems..?

Vit C will not reduce either the duration or the severity of a cold AFAIK

Well, if a quarter of a carton of apple juice is your reccomended intake, i usually drink at least one full carton, often two a day, ontop of that i have probably four pieces of fruit, so that's about 10x over the RDA. For breakfast I have either Toast or Bran Flakes. Then for tea I usually have rice, fish and vegetables for tea. It's a diet i've devised for myself in order to lose weight. I've lost about four stone in maybe 6 months \o. But it occurred to me I might be eating too much Vitamin C especially now in my attemt to shake this cold. and I wondered if I was doing myself more harm than good. If i just cut down the amount of juice i drink and replace it with tea/water then I'll be dandy.

You can switch to juice drinks with a lower vitamin c amount.

I think if you're eating that much fruit and drinking so much juice, you should watch out for the sugars.

Don't vitamin supplement pills have like close to 1000% of daily value for a lot of the stuff they come with?

Vitamin C is water soluable, you'll piss it out. The fat soluable vitamins are the ones that are bad for you.
