I'm trying to research this uphill subject, so can anyone point out some trivialy unatractive hollywood stars?
at the time, these come to mind: whoopi goldberg, queen latifah and Kathy Bates but I am most interested in finding younger candidates

Many sitcoms have at least one fat chick who's about a 1/2 hour away from a moustache.

Goldie Hawn, she was pretty bad, and her tits looked so crap that halved any score she would get.

what exactly are you trying to 'research'?
the thread title makes succesful unattractive actresses sound like an anamoly

it is somewhat of an anomaly compared to the standard of simply going up to an audition line , rather than hard work on their part
I am trying to figure out just how much of a deterant is the physical compared to the actual skill or talent one needs in order to make it in this business
edit: I have also noticed that an unatractive face can be overlooked or even covered if the actor has a nice body or atleast is anorexic

Hollywood doesn't care about talent so why are you even bothering to research this?

point taken but I'm willing to risk the theory that a talented actress can beat the odds
take Linda Hunt for example, imo they don't come uglier than this yet she has won an oscar

Renée Zellweger

So has Halle Berry.
The Oscars aren't about talent. They're about politics and snobbery.

that's subjective to one's tastes not to mention her body is not that unatractive

whoopi goldberg is not ugly... she may not be above 7 on a scale of 10 - but she's not ugly
however, you could consider Helena Bonham Carter (fight club) to be ugly... but then again, that depends on your point of view.

HBC is a strange one, she's in a similar sort of mould to Uma Thurman IMO.

Doesn't all of it depend on your POV?
Juliette Lewis is a dog for some ppl, but others love her.

yep.. cannes is by far more important regarding movies. it's not allways been like that, but the self-centeredness of hollywood is somewhat decreasing the academy awards appeal.
