You wouldn't believe it, even if Kaz Hirai said it himself, but I'm going to call it right now: Loco Roco is going to be the game for the PSP come 2006. Developed internally by Sony, Loco Roco is dubbed as an action game, but it might as well be a platformer and puzzle game too.

The basic concept of the game is this. You have to guide a little blob-like creature from the start point to the goal. What seems like a really easy thing to do is made innovative by how you do it. By using the L and R triggers, you have the ability to tilt the entire playing area up to 45 degrees in either direction. Your blob has the IQ of a toaster and thus can't move independently. However, by rotating the playing field, you can allow it to roll down the incline that you've created in order for it to reach the goal. Your blob friend can also jump by pressing the two triggers together. Combine this with a steep incline and you can catch some serious air in order to traverse dangerous gaps. Or if you want a small jump, simply level out the playing field and you'll be able to produce a smaller jump.

Your blob also has two other abilities, which is to break up into several pieces or combine into one large blob. By tapping the X button, you can break them up, and by holding it, you can form a large blob. This is useful in solving puzzles or even just progressing through the stage. The reason this ability exists is due to the fact that your blob can eat almost anything in the stage, be it flowers or even some enemies, so long as they're smaller than it. As your blob eats more, it becomes bigger, so big that sometimes it's too hard to move around, hence the ability to split up. However, you have to be very careful here, as your size dictates your health. So if you're a small little blob, your health is much lower than if you were a big one. Whenever you're hit, a small piece of your body flies off, and although you can recover it if you chase it down, keeping your body at an appropriate size is very important in the game.

Due out in 2006, Loco Roco may seem like a simple game, but that's what people said about Katamari Damacy, and everyone knows how that turned out. With the rumor of a massively online mode being added to the game, Loco Roco may very well exceed everyone's expectations.

Many people are calling this the best game shown at TGS.
