quake 4 is the next cpl 1v1 game for the WT

The CPL has just released the details of the 1 v 1 game at the 2006 World Tour. After much anticipation and speculation the game will be Quake IV. This will come as exciting news to many people. The CPL has not used Quake in any form for years and it was long wondered if they would ever use or be allowed to use an iD software game again. The CPL and iD software appear to have worked out any previous problems they have had.

It's very telling that the CPL have decided on a game which isn't even released yet.
Just shows their orientation. Surely any credible gaming organisation would decide on a game which proves itself to be most suitable.

The difference between MP arena games is more subtle than that, to their fanbases. You certainly can't establish a games suitability by being assured it's 'just like' another game, nor can some limited testing confirm it, either. Game needs to be out in public being played for 6 months plus for its worth to be proved, IMO.

hm... on the other hand: CPL is about money, gaming only comes second. I bet the 'differencies' they cleared were financial ones...

i cant fucking wait for q4 - every game since has been pale in comparison in terms of sheer fucking gameplay experience - nothing has yet come close to q3a - if q4 pulls it off i'll be pleased as fucking punch

There was some sort of conflict between the CPL and id regarding using q3 in CPL tourneys. I believe it was a liscencing issue or some such thing. The CPL didnt just pull the plug on q3.
