District 9 - 9/10

Finally saw this movie and really likes it. I knew I would cause I'd heard plenty about it. Great original story.

Stalingrad 8/10

Another one that's worth a watch, probably a bit better if you understand German, my subtitles seemed to be half of what the person said sometimes, but definitely worth the watch. There aren't enough movies showing the war from the German infantry perspective.

i've seen that movie with subs and they're not that bad, as they go. german tends to use more words than engrish to say roughly the same thing... but they'll always edit if the dialogue gets too thick simply because you can't fit so many words on the screen.
it was fairly taboo for a long time to show german protagonists in WWII, but there are a few other films that did so to some extent. here are a couple older ones:
Die Brücke (The Bridge, 1959)
Ich War Neunzehn (I Was Nineteen, 1968 - decidedly East German presentation, but still a sort of "alternative" German perspective)

Book of Eli: 5/10. Impressionistic story failed to get its drama on. Cinematography was first rate though.

Shutter Island: 7/10 Good stuff. A twist that was satisfying and not telegraphed during the first 10 minutes.

Green Zone: 6/10 Entertaining and tight but didn't take enough chances. Brendan Gleeson needs to be in more movies.

I didn't check out all of the movie listings since there are so many. Has anyone watched 'Food Inc' it's on YouTube. The movie seems OK but the captioning feature is suckie. I'm glad they are trying to incorporate this feature, needs some work

Actually if you watch it again they throw hints at you from the first line on the boat. They aren't necessarily hints to the twist but they hint you that something isn't right.

Still trying to to give the B grade sci fi a good score here, but look if you're into science fiction it is still worth a look.

In short not memorable, a little disappointing and I wouldn't got there again 6/10

American Psycho 7/10 Would have given it an 8 if the ending wasn't quite so involuted. Brilliant performance by Bale (this was the first time I'd seen the entire film), great portrayal of the 80s slick, greedy, yuppie culture, and the HUGE helping of WHAT THE FUCK? all make for an excellent film.

Yea American Psycho was great.

Toy Story 3 = 9/10

They pretty much nailed it yet again.

3:10 To Yuma - 7/10 Holy crap, how did I ever not like the little bit of this movie I watched a few months ago? I remember thinking that what I saw of the beginning was boring, but I think I must have been on peckerhead pills or something, because this movie was excellent. The only minor irritation I had with it was Russell Crowe's cheesy pickup lines about green-eyed women. That's it, the rest of the film was great.

What are you, on some kind of homoerotic Christian Bale binge? I had mine about a year ago

3:10 to Yuma was great

Knight and Day - 5/10 - cheeseball summer movie. pretty predictable, no depth, some stock stunts. a couple minutes of cameron diaz in a bikini, but otherwise not worth much except maybe as a harmless first date movie (assuming your date is desensitized to gratuitous hollywood violence).
oh, and tom cruise is insane. irl. insane.

Sherlock Holmes - 7/10

A bit too much Hollywood, but with a certain charm.

Avatar - 7/10

Nice effects, dumb story. It has that special Cameron feeling to it though, so it gets a 7 instead of a 6.

Moon - 8/10

Indie sci-fi that reminded me of the classics, Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein. Great stuff.

Willow - 10/10

Still one of my favorite movies.

Good Matt Damon action flick with enough in it to wash the taste of shit in my mouth left from Hurt Locker.

Twilight Eclipse (I was coerced) - 4/10 - teen romance, some decent fighting at the end. it's about as pitiful as you'd expect, so don't let curiosity lure you in.

It's real sci-fi, as opposed to "fantasy in space" that's much more common.

Unthinkable

Meh, imo just an extended 24 episode, under the guise of "a movie scrutinising torture ethics".
Adequate performances by Sam Jackson, Michael Sheen, and the off-putingly bow legged Carrie Anne Moss.
But even they weren't able to convey the sense of urgency the plot demanded.
