fucking hell, nazi zombies with personal hot air balloons. that could've been the most awesome film ever made :(

the pointlessly skewed morality in dead snow really annoyed me. can't say exactly why without giving the ending away, but i wish they'd stayed in genre a bit more. if they cut about 30 seconds of dialog across the whole thing it'd be twice as good a film.

more nazi zombies, outpost - 7/10
set in eastern europe but on a budget so small they couldn't even afford to go there to film it, and scary in the way that horror stories friends tell each other when they're bereft of media are scary.

Twin Town - A film about Memphis & Donny. Good story & relatively funny 7.5/10.

Inglorious Basterds - 9.5/10 - Tarantino's best since Pulp Fiction.

Jennifers Body 5/10

Megan fox plays a highschool girl in a small town... :olo: ( She looks way to fucking old to be in high school.) who goes to see a big city emo band that comes to a bar in her small town with her nerdy best friend (they have a quasi lesbo relationship..like most girls and their best girlfriends) While the emo band play a song sung to Megan fox...the bar some how sets on fire!?!?!?!? and lots of people die. The leader of the band finds Megan fox outside the bar....takes her away in the band van..( minus best friend...) Then Megan fox gets sacrificed to the devil in the woods by the emo band so they can get a record deal.. . but because she lied to them about being a virgin. ( she has done its lots of times.. even in the bum ) ....she becomes a demon. So she returns to her day to day life as a really old looking highschool girl, but now she is more of a bitch than usual and has to feed ..in demon period kinda way.. If shes low on blood, she gets ugly and moody...So she has to kill and eat people to sustain her beauty.
Her friend goes all nancy drew and blah blah blah....its retarded.
Lots of witty dialogue... (Its written by diablo cody.. same chick who wrote Juno.)
Hot or not ...Megan Fox is a fucking retard who can't act her way out of a paper bag. The flick had a few laughs...All the gore is implied, and cut away from... not worth paying to see.

Doom 2/10

Woundfuckingly terrible, but i was too hungover to change the channel.

Give it 1 bonus point for the fps bit, which was not as unspeakably awful as the rest. Had they done the entire film this way, it might have been something... but it was not to be.

Surrogates - 7/10
Pretty decent. Bruce actually does a bit of acting; the plot is very well conceived and put together. It lets itself down though by feeling really *rushed*. The gloss over of history in the opening titles is very unsatisfying and there's never enough time to give a shit about Bruce and his Wife even though they try like hell to jam some kind of human interest in there. Bottom line, if it was 30-40 min longer to establish a backdrop with some more development and it would be a very good modern sci-fi movie.
As is, it's still a good watch but not something to put on the shelf next to Gattica.

White Out -7/10
Left me feeling pretty "eh?"... The setup, intensity, and atmosphere are great. However the "awww; feel sad for the psychologically ruined cop" story shown in flashback throughout is so played out and tiered it just comes off as lame. Should have cut that and made the main character just like everyone else, a normal person in an extra-ordinary situation. It recoups some points in the character department for being one of the first action movies i've seen in a long time that portrays trained professionals as not being completely retarded in an emergency situation. The characters do a nice job of thinking clearly on their feet as they should be given their status and location.
Bottom line is that like Surrogates, it's an enjoyable watch but not worth more than a spot on your netflix queue.

Dawn of the Dead (original) 7/10
Day of the Dead (original) 3/10

When that recent Romero zombie flick came out (the one with the fireworks and the intelligent zombies) i thought it was a betrayal to the zombie genre - to portray the undead as creatures with an ability to learn is ridiculous. It takes away the abject horror of the idea of being eaten alive by a corpse, it creates sympathy for the zombie. This is wrong. They are mindless flesh eating drones that need to be shot in the head.

Anyway, i had totally forgotten that the learning, evolving zombie was Romero's idea of zombies, that he came up with this ludicrous & self defeating concept as far back as Dawn and Day. He got away with it in Dawn of the Dead because the issue is barely mentioned and the film is saved entirely by an excellent cast and good story.

In Day however, Romero expands upon this idea and as a result the film is an utterly unwatchable parody of itself. In the end we see Bob the intelligent zombie shooting the bad guy with a gun, what the fuck. Terrible.

Fishtank 8/10

Beautiful/twisted film about a 15 year old dirt poor Chav girl named Mia from Essex who strives to be a hip hop dancer..
She lives in a shit hole tenement in Essex ( redundant? ) with her slag mum and younger sister. She spends her days getting into fights with the local slag chavs who also want to be hip hop dancers and drinking 2 liter bottles of cider. After a bit of cheap cider in her... her feminine side begins to show and she becomes fixated on freeing an old Horse owned by a group of young Pikeys who camp out in shite caravans in a dirt lot.

One day her chav/slag mother brings home a boy friend who by his accent is above them... ( can't remember where he's from..but believe me.. He's better than them. ) and changes their lives for better and then for the worse. ( I can't say how cuz it would ruin it all).

I really liked this film. Beautiful direction. I loved the cinema verite of it all.. had a hint of harmony Korines Gummo to it...( if only for the white trash element) The lead actress is fucking fenomenal. Apparently its her first film and was chosen for the role. Much like Thomas Turgoose in This is England... I really want to see her again. In fact I wish it was a TV show so I could watch it regularly. Absolutely amazing. I will watch it again

I thought so too..
I didnt want to see it cuz of the trailers... I thought It would be just that guy from adventureland doing that guy from adventureland....
and TBH.. He does.. but its better suited in this film.
You completely forget about it about 5 minutes in.
Then you realize the character is better suited to this film and you completely forget about the other.

It is fucking comedy gold. :olo:

TBH...It helps if you've read Zombie survival guide and WWZ ( I've read both multiple times.) .... you really get the laughs, especially at the start.. but otherwise... Its a sold film.

.
Its seriously a GREAT Zombie film.
And TBH.. I loved how by the end you realize it just broke all the rules.

I FUCKING LOVED it.. and will see it again...and again.

Its NOT sean of the dead.. Its different. Not the American version of. or what ever... But its fucking hilarious and a must see.

Zombie survival is good...

BUT World War Z is a fucking great book.

I normally don't read that type of fiction. I bought it on a whim... and it turned out to be a phenomenal novel.. I've re-read it 3 times now.. ( The audio book is brilliant, beyond the fact the author is the main narrator...the other cast of major actors for the voices is epic..
ITS A MUST HAVE.. fuckign stellar for a good car ride. )

If your " Lady Friend" Liked Survival guide... She will cream her jeans for the audio book of World war Z.

Saw Zombie Land today. It was good, but not as good as it could have been. There were too few zombies in it for my liking, and I never felt the main cast were ever really at risk.

*SPOILER*

It's also odd to see a zombie movie where not a single member of the group dies.

Oh yeah, and fast zombies bad.

Zombieland - 9/10

Saw it for the second time today and it was just as funny as the first time around. Definitely my favourite zombie flick to date.
