Mumbai went on as long as it did because of their comically bad police communication and equipment, something that we in the States would have no problem with.

IIRC the cops in India had WW1 and 2 era weapons and no radios.

Yes, I know. There's no possible way it could have been a legitimate comparison. You heard the phrase "Godwin's Law" on the internet, and that permanently removed the ability for anyone to ever compare anything to what Nazis did ever again.

Ryoki wrote: Breivik purchased his ammo online from an American gun site, which was an entirely legal transaction thanks to the lax gun laws in the US. I'm not too familiar with Norwegian gun laws but i'm pretty sure that calibre isn't over the counter stuff over there, i wager he'd have great difficulties getting his hands on so much of it if he couldn't have ordered it.

As for the Mumbai thing, comparing terrorism (and to be honest i would hesitate not to put Breivik in that catagory) to random shootings is silly and unproductive as they are rather different phenomena. So only that first one is a legit comparison, really.

My 2 cts on this are summed up by that cartoon - if you want lax gun laws, occasional random shootings is the price you pay.

Oh, as for the original question, when i was 13 this one kid in my class memorized Janes Defense Weekly or someshit and could autistically cough up stats on about every smallarm ever created. It was a proper fascination, one that only went away when he found tanks and assorted armored vehicles more interesting a year later. The year after that he found out about girls.
My point is that there are indeed many countries with draconian gun laws, yet mass shootings still happen. I won't argue terrorism vs. mass shootings being two different things, I think the comparison is valid, but if you don't I can understand that.

I really don't think that lax gun laws will result in "occasional random shootings". Switzerland is clearly doing something right.

The law you referred to seemed to relax restrictions on guns, except for Jews of course. I don't see where they collected them, on the contrary. Only handguns needed the permit you referred to long guns were unrestricted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politi ... eapons_Act

Regardless I'm sure you could find a way to make your point without using Nazis...

Yes mass shootings also happen in countries with strict gun laws, but (and this is the important part) not nearly as often as in the US. It's like saying people die in car crashes with or without enforced seatbelt rules... yes it happens, but wtf kind of argument is that?

Switzerland might have lax gun laws compared with most of Europe, but i think you'll find the laws draconian compared to the US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politi ... witzerland
A lot of guns, yes - but tightly controlled ammo and strict checks to make sure people follow the rules.

Yeah. Like I said, Mostly for shits and its so fucking easy to get. Plus, Its not like im going out buying 30 guns. Gonna pick up a single and be done with it. Home protection, and something to do when I'm bored. Why not really.

I could live without it. And I do currently. I'm in no huge hurry to get out and get my CCW, its just on my list of shit to get done sometime in the near future. Hell If things keep going the way they are I wont be in this country much longer anyways.

oh, and I don't get the whole constitutional right issue. What if the constitution said that people have a right to kill their grandparents on every fifth lunar eclipse? Would people be defending that "right" simply because it was written in paper? Sounds more like religious faith than rational thought to me.
