"Used to".

I'll be first in line in saying she was a waste of space any time of the day, but back when she first came around she was an amazing singer and, dare I say it, hot, too.

Its amazing what a little talcum powder can do to a lass.

so, to sum up: a singer died, who some people thought was pretty decent, while others had never heard of, then a stupid flame war ensued, for no apparent reason

i think we can tie this one off

Adele was saying she saw her has a big influence during some interview on the radio the other day, she's pretty successful if you look at the worldwide chartings for her last album.

And there you have it. She influenced other artists.
Eraser wrote:I have yet to run into a musician who will cite her as being a major influence on their own music.
How many musicians do you run into? Not many I shouldn't think, and the one's you do run into probably share your enthusiasm for prog rock type bands like dream theater. Hardly a qualification by which to judge a completely different genre that you probably never take much interest in listening to.

Eraser wrote:She's just no way in the same league as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Kurt Cobain when it comes to being iconic and influential.
Apart from hendrix, I say bullshit. That's just typical nostalgic 'oh they're legends and noone will ever touch them' crap, in the same way some people still say "keith moon was teh greatest drummah evah!"
I bet you don't even know half of janis joplin's music. If she were alive today and performing, some people would be saying similar things about her voice and style as they do about winehouse.
Kurt Cobain is iconic mostly because he was a heroin addict and so was elevated to legendary status. Jimi Hendrix, well he's obviously not a fair comparison to most artists since his influence in the world of music is absolutely massive, and he truly is a legend.

I think you're underestimating Cobain's influence there. Not saying he's Hendrix in the sense of technical skill, but he almost singlehandedly did kick off a new genre.

The jarhead is correct, in that she was pretty fuckin good... for what she did musically. The style. The problem here is this; You posers just wanna be hip. "Innovative". Bullshit. Music is 'spose tuh be enjoyable. Some people listen to music to ENJOY it. Not to be current on shit. Most popular? Most innovative? I don't think you fucks know what talent IS. >:(

I am sorry for the barb as I have never heard his voice.
I have to ask, has anyone here heard and if so is it worth investigating, listening to?
Please advise.

New genre? Nirvana popularised grunge by my understanding. A genre which was already established. I can also argue that amy winehouse re-popularised vintage soul music and brought it back to mainstream pop.

To boil Kurt Cobain's historical significance down to the fact that he was a heroin addict is appallingly short-sighted and I'm surprised to see a musician making such a comment.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

Thanks andyman

I have to ask how in the world would you know to type ba in that search bar? OIC, search engine stuff... Obvious now but ba?

Incredible there's 595,205,829 hits on that vid and I could only get to 2:20 before closing the window :smirk:

I tried some other searches ... 'ZZ' gives this one. Nice. Me, well I searched one of my favourites

I got to get about and about some more.

LOL here come the facebook statuses:

"Everyone knows Amy Winehouse Died.. Who is Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29, Justus Bartett 27, Dave Santos 21, Jesse Reed 26, Matthew Johnson 21, Zachary Fisher 24, Brandon King 23, Christopher Goeke 23, and Sheldon Tate 27....Are all Marines that gave their lives this week for you. There is no media for them... not even a mention of their names. Honor THEM by posting this. I did, will you??"

If the best you can get from your death is a facebook status pleading for a repost, your life might not have been worth shit to begin with. repost if you agree?
