I have a 55¨ Sony SXRD Rear Pro, I believe the model I have has just been replaced in the states (KDS-55A2020 KDS-55A3000). Rear pro's offer the best combination of size, quality (precision), contrast and often produce the best picture from standard SD sources. Down side is the size of them, not bad if you're placing them on a TV stand but impossible to wall mount or terrible if you're crammed for space.

I'm concerned more about getting the best picture quality, how do you think the picture quality compares from a rear proj to a new lcd panel? contrast ratio, color...etc.

The new sxrd says 2.5ms 120Hz.

Not too many LCD's black levels can compare to a good RPTV. RPTV's are still a very good bang for the buck. some peeps just can't handle the monstrosity of them.

i work in it and ce retail so I see these products day in day out. if you have space for a rear pro, rear pro over and over again. nothing comes close for picture quality, speed of image, size and value. i was hestitant as hell when i got mine as I mainly deal with lcd product and a dabble of pano plasma, but the offer was too good to be true i took the plunge and got the sony sxrd. never looked back to be honest, really love it and 1080p belows me away time and time again.

i was considering buying a second tv set and my choice there was the 40m87, the samsung products are second to none, it's only because of shit management of their retail channel and dumbass koreans thinking they know what's best in western demographics that their products come across marketted so badly. but view a sammy m87 against any other lcd or plasma and it'll be tough to compare anything to it, and we've handled everything from humax to loewe.

if you can afford to wait then sharp will soon be releasing 100hz 1080p (this combination isn't currently available), this is the ultimate combination and i know atleast 1 other major vendor which will follow suit.

i wanted to get an sxrd but becuz of the local of the tv i had to go lcd.

and my theater area i never ever use for that so ive got my 36 sammy beamer in there for a workout tv but sinse i havet worked out heh

i tried it on my tv and it doest do that , it goes to the last input used, wich i like and prefer.

I've always been a sony fanboy but I absolutely love what I'e seen of these samsungs. My brother has got a 48" samsung I think or whatever the biggest one is, and HD on it looks incredible. How does sony compare in resolution, etc? I presume it's sony bravias?

the biggest sammy's 50 something inch. image qul is better in some areas and worse in others next to top of the line sony but mostly better. the black point can't be beat by anyother LCD.

I was standing in dixons and they had a large screen samsung, and an LG also the same size, back to back playing the same HD DVD. I don't know if it was the way they tuned it or if they'd left them both on factory defaults, but the samsung imo was far more vibrant, with some lovely shades of blue in the colour. Then again, LG probably isn't much to go by. My brothers set already has one dead pixel, which happened about a week or so after he bought it. I don't think he's noticed. Apparently that's quite common in LCD's?

i don't even know what dixon's is, but most places don't fuck with settings at all because they come from the factory setup with brightness/contrast cranked up which most noobs prefer.

i've never had a hot pixel with my sammy's and i'm on my second model. samsung follow the ISO standard on dead/hot pixel as well, so if you do ever have an issue you know you've got backing.
