americans...are they really stupid...
I agree, it is a fad. Its a fad because of how isolated america has put itself in the world. Dont get me wrong, when you are a nation as powerful as this one its difficult to make friends but at the same time bombing, murdering and financially crippling people and economies to make this nation richer whilst under the pretence of "Humanitarism" is what developed that fad in the first place.Tsakali_ wrote:
I'm not an american , I reside in the US but I still think america bashing is more of a fad than anything else
Britain Marched around the globe with its head held high doing the same 2 centuries ago, but they didnt do it under a pretence of something that it wasnt. They just flat out said. Look, your country's shit, let us run it or we will take you over anyways. Nations liked that. They joined the empire because trade and economic sanctions that would have resulted from not being part of the empire would have quite literally killed them and by joining they were brought out of, quite literally , the dark ages. America tends to go, If you aint with us you are against us, which is an isolated narrow point of view. Its bullish.
I’d be highly surprised if the percentage of stupid people was significantly higher than in the rest of the world. Having said that, I think Americans are more ignorant on a lot of issues than other Western people. But I blame the education system for that, and perhaps the US media (that tends to focus on the US alone).
So there.
So there.

I disagree, potential intelligence determines what amount of education you can absorb, and what you can make of it. In other words, you can't polish a turd.Foo wrote:
You can be as dumb as bread but with education you might be very intelligent.
I do wonder, however, whether or not a "stupid" person could become "smarter" if they had a teacher that could figure out exactly how that individual needed to have things explained.
I think it's possible, but hard to say. In the end, you end up teaching everything to yourself, because if you can't translate it into terms that make sense to you, it's futile.
Depends by what bar we're going to go by. Political awareness, logic skills, aptitute, geographical knowledge, ethics...Ryoki wrote:I’d be highly surprised if the percentage of stupid people was significantly higher than in the rest of the world. Often when people assert Americans 'are dumb' they're often failing to articulate that they feel American society as a whole falls down in some specific way like the manners above.

lol good pointGeebs wrote:I have to say, the only real evidence I've ever seen that Americans are significantly more stupid than any other race is that you guys have to have all those labels on your political cartoons because, presumably, you can't handle metaphor unless it's spelled out[FTF]Pyro wrote:

I don't remember, but I saw some polls when the Kansas (or was it Kansas City?) school board thing was going on, and I distinctly rembember being disgusted by them. I'll see if I can find one again...StormShadow wrote:Where did you get that statistic? If its an accurate statistic, its pretty damn scaryI'm not one to say some statistic inclusively represents everyone, but the MAJORITY of Americans believe creationism should be taught.
