Pulse (the Craven rewrite) 3/10 It had a few disturbing scenes but fell far short of being a good thriller.

Apparently it's already being remade by Hollywood as "Quarantine".
I think some of the funny must have been lost in translation mind you. During some of the character study sections, there were a bunch of Spaniards in the audience, and they were laughing incredibly hard at what seemed to just be mildly amusing, if that.
Didn't stop the movie from fucking owning however.

finally saw No Country for Old Men last weekend - pretty darn good, really. 9/10.
i was afraid it was going to be really cerebral and pretentious, but instead it was more like a classic western set in 1980. good stuff.

There Will Be Blood - 6/10 Daniel Day Lewis was great, a complete bastard. The film was engrossing, but a bit long. I'll have to give Sinclair's book a read to see how much better it is. I find that time period both interesting and dreadful. Seems to me that people were made from sterner stuff back then, on several levels. So much possibility, so many opportunities. Seems as though all the really successful tycoons were total douchebags, though.

I finally broke down and got a Netflix account. Watched Jim Gaffigan online last night and our first movies got here today - I'm liking it already.

Since REC was sold out, i opted for Bug - 8/10

Film about two people in one room who slowly go stark raving mad. Coke & booze fuelled paranoia leads to them thinking government controlled bugs are crawling under their skin, influencing their behaviour… or are they real?

I liked how virtually the whole film is shot in the same room, with the same two people and still manages to keep you glued to the screen. Good dialogue, good craziness, bad vibes.

I honestly think I would have Daniel Day Lewis' man-babies. He was absolutely mind-blowingly entertaining in the movie. His rant at the end was fucking perfect and well worth the length of the movie.

Absolutely, I love the way he just fucking verbally levels that preacher. The bowling pin bit was a bit much, but it was nice to finally hear this "I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!" meme for myself.

Before the Devil Knows Your Dead: 6/10. Pretty good on the whole. The actors are uniformly excellent...Lumet's sure hand can be seen in every frame. Not enough background provided for some of the key relationships that drive the plot however...this ultimately limits the film's emotional impact.
Bonus points for : Marisa Tomei's flashing her perky tits and tight stomach.
Demerits for: A nude Phillip Seymour Hoffman pumpin away doggie style.

That scene was hilarious...minus the bowling pin bit. Daniel Day Lewis was indeed excellent. I liked his accent and tone.

Speaking of great accent and tone, check out the trailer for Tropic Thunder. Robert Downey Jr. does a great voice as a dude playin the dude disguised as another dude. Fuckin hilarious.

Me and the boyfriend wanted to kill ourselves after this movie. The only good part was when they coated the walls in aluminum foil to block out 'signals' or whatever... And why the fuck was everything blue!?! Bugzappers? sheesh.


Juno - 7/10. Chick flick but with an edge. Girl gets knocked up at 16, has a major sassy attitude like Enid in Ghost World, gives the baby up for adoption (not a spoiler)... how she copes with things.

Yep. I honestly liked nearly all of the movie, but the last several minutes were just perfect in every way.

The Mist - 6/10
Odd movie based on a Stephen King novel. It definitely FEELS like a King movie, and the ending is a total WTF moment. Makes me wonder if it follows the novel that far. Not particularly suspenseful or thrilling.

The Signal - 7/10
I enjoyed this one. There were a few funny parts and the way the movie played out was clever and somewhat original.

Cloverfield - 7/10
I didn't think the shakycam was too bad, and I think it was a good way to personalize the movie and really bring the viewer into the chaos of the moment. The characters were shallow and sitcomish.

While laid up on the couch this weekend I've watched:
28 Weeks Later : meh wasn't really paying attention, but nothing special
Ocean's 13 : Same as you've learned to expect from 11 and 12. Good but not great.
Beowulf : I'm disappointed I didn't remember more of the story. And that the CG version of Angelina didn't have a cunt. Not bad, not great.
Superbad : good, but not super funny. I was expecting another 40 yo virgin or something like that. Not quite up to snuff, but still quite good.
Full Metal Jacket : One of the best war movies of all time, IMO.
(a couple weeks ago) Bourne Ultimatum : the Bourne series are hands down the best spy movies I've seen in a long time, excluding the new Bond.

Watch superbad again. The first time I saw it I thought it was just shit potty humor, second time it was much better potty humor.

Michael Cera is fucking hilarious every turn.
