The last movie you saw
Re: The last movie you saw
Southland tales... 6?/10..
First film in ??? years by the guy who did Donnie Darko...
I don't know what to think about this one. Its cast mostly with comedic actors, mostly from mad tv and snl... The Rock plays the lead, and Justin Timberlake co-stars and narrates the film as if he's trying really hard to sound like Edward Norton's narration in fight club.. But its not a comedy...or at least I'm not so sure it was written as a comedy, I laughed a lot...but I'm not sure it was intentionally funny, It's almost as if its written as a laughably bad film. Its a tough one to nail down...Its almost too ambitious...It could have been better, with better actors I think.
I'm gonna have to watch it again TBH... Apparently theres a graphic novel that explains most of the film as a prequel done by the director.. The whole... "I'm a pimp, and pimps dont commit suicide" line was just fucked... I dont get why they kept repeating it. I guess I have to read the comic and then see it again. If anything... It made me want to watch it again; but only to try and figure it out..

1408 - 6/10
Starts out magnificently, great cinematography and direction. About halfway it starts losing it, and becomes confused and unfocused. There isn't really much of a story there - I don't know if it is because of King's short story or because of unimaginative screenwriting, but it feels like the latter half could have needed more substance. Though you do recognize the typical Stephen King-esqe storytelling, there simply should have a bit more of it.
Great effort, but doesn't really deliver all the way through.

SPOILERS FOR MICHAEL CLAYTON DON'T READ THIS OR THE NEXT POST
I just watched Michael Clayton again. Great performances, but one thing didn't sit well with me at all. Blowing up his car seemed ridiculously novice and suspicious, given how "professionally" the killing of Arthur was carried out and covered up. It seems like even if he was killed this would have unraveled eventually.

Not to mention the plot hole of buddy being able to perform as the lawyer for this evil corporation for so long only to one day all of a sudden realize he was doing a bad thing.EtUL wrote:I just watched Michael Clayton again. The Bank Job 7.5/10
Was a decent movie, not nearly as good as any of Guy Ritchy's movies though.

10,000 BC, 6/10. I liked it better than I thought I would. The mammoths were pretty cool.

Defending Your Life 8/10
had seen it years ago and still enjoyed watching it again last night.
Boondock Saints 7/10
Not exactly what I expected it to be and it took a few strange turns.
Worth a look though.

Perhaps a bit far-fetched, but recall how everything had gone horribly pear-shaped for the two thugs at that point.EtUL wrote: I just watched Michael Clayton again. As for Arthur's attack of conscience, I can believe that. Didn't seem too unrealistic. I thought that overall it was a good film, just didn't really care for the ending.
The Darjeeling Limited - 7/10 I don't know if Wes Anderson also directed The Life Aquatic, but the two films are very similar in tone, pace, and style. The characters were fantastic, the film was very well cast. It was quite odd, but I liked the story and found the whole thing very funny.

He did indeed. I really like his films. He also did Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums.Nightshade wrote: The Darjeeling Limited - 7/10 I don't know if Wes Anderson also directed The Life Aquatic, but the two films are very similar in tone, pace, and style. There Will Be Blood = 3/10 - BORING! I have no idea why people loved this movie so much.
Mothman Prophecies = 7/10 - A weird film that was very good at building tension in alot of scenes.
