No not at all, it just provides a nice benchmark to see that the grand you spent on a TV was worth it.

That, or I can keep watching shitty films that were released before HD was even around?

I believe so, yeah, well, they do HD porn, so it must be at least 720p :P

It must be a step up from 10 second shitty videos :D

lol you just don't know where to look.

Followed by standard o'dium "10 seconds is enough otherwise it'll take away from my girlfriend and outside time"-reply.

I watched Ridley Scott's Alien.

Followed by James Cameron's Aliens

Then I watched Alien 3 which was shit.

Almost as bad as Alien 4.

Underworld 4/10

A storyline that appears to have been stolen from at least three different films, something about a war between werewolves and vampires… and a pretty vampire girl that dispatches them all with an unending stream of bullets from her twin revolvers whilst striking cool poses.

So far so good – except halfway the plot is aborted entirely for reasons unknown… and the entire movie becomes an exercise in maintaining concentration so you can form a picture of what the fuck is going on by ignoring the chaotic, nonsensical bullshit they added.

Now I quite like a bad film every now and then – but lazy filmmakers just piss me off.

Then you haven't seen the worse.

Geoof3World: Rise of the Geoofs will make you want to cut of your own balls off and choke yourself to death on them.

Good thing I avoided the trailer and know how to triage...

You know, I used to hate Alien 3, but then at some stage I suddenly started to respect Fincher as a film guy, and started to enjoy the film... I know its got a LOT of stupid scenes, and some of the worst CGI I've seen, but still... You have to remember this film followed the best horror film of all time and the best action horror film of all time...

What the fuck was it supposed to do? It was doomed from the start. The only reason Aliens was so good is because they surprised us all and took a different direction. Lets face it, Alien 3 had a LOT to live up to, and while it wasn't as good as 1 and 2, it was still a good flick.

Alien 4 on the other hand was the biggest pile of shite I have ever seen. but the PSX FPS game was great :D

I got into this whole taste debate thing earlier... it's a hornet's nest i tell you!

But that doesn't take away the fact that geoff 3 is a terrible film.

Its not terrible. Its just not as good as the first two.

A lot of people here think Die Hard 3 was a great flick. I didn't like it all that much to be honest, but the reason I don't like it is because compared to the first, its just not as good. But I can see why people like it. I had the opposite attitude to DH4, I went in expecting it to not be as good as the first, but I was surprised because it wasn't half bad.

3's not totally bad. some of the actors are on form (e.g. charles dance and brian glover) - but it totally fucking ruins the story potential deliberately left for it by 2 and makes a pig's ear of building the tension/claustrophobia/whatever that are essential to that kind of story.

i think part of the reason it was such a limp seeping cock of a film was because it tried to use the same methods as the earlier films when it could so easily have gone in another direction - we already know what the monster looks like, we already know what it does. maybe if they'd spent more time with it, us looking over it's shoulder as it worked it's way around the prison then it would've been more watchable. maybe have the monster tracking specific people but not attacking or revealing itself, making their deaths inevitable. i don't fucking know. but having the little bugger carry on popping out of airvents like a bimbo from a cake was just bloody silly (it was a prison ffs, how complex a system of easily-accessible person-sized airvents does it need?). in a lot of ways it was the crappiest entry in the franchise. the fourth one was rubbish too, but for much more respectable reasons.

and i don't get why you'd feel like that about david fincher after watching alien 3. it's an extra-specially crappy movie when you compare it to fight club or se7en. just had to look it up for confirmation before i carried on rambling, but fincher pretty much disowned it, having only been involved from about halfway through and then facing constant interference from the studio. he hasn't wanted anything to with any of the subsequent re-releases either.

btw that word replacement wasn't funny enough to do in the first place, is there any chance it can be ditched?

I will admit the biggest gripe I had with Alien 3 was them removing Hicks and Newt... That was wrong.

Minority Report - 7/10

Not Spielberg's best work by far, but entertaining none the less. A good story, decent acting (although Cruise's utter batshit craziness shines through occationally, and I strongly dislike Colin Farrell) and nice visuals. A few "Episode II"-ish unnecessary action scenes (in the car factory for example) do detract from the overall score though.

The Host, american release

0/10 because some fucking idiot thought that dubbing movies didn't turn them into shit

The Usual Suspects
There are a lot of movies with plot twists like this now, but this was done in 1995... pretty good.

Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior
I liked this much better than The Protector... seriously good stunt work by Tony Jaa & crew. Recommend for martial arts fans.

Undisputed 2
The quality of the fight scenes surprised me... Scott Adkins steals the show from the star... better than the first one, but I can't recommend it unless you are a fan of fight scene staging.
