I've never really tested flat, since i cycle on roads and i don't have much room to test a nice flat out, but i can easily reach 40 and I imagine I could maintain it for a minute or so. I'm guessing I could reach 50 in ideal flat conditions.
So i'm wondering... how much could i do on a racing bike with proper gear and everything?
I bet you would do well. As for clipless the difference is like night and day. It's easy to reach 40 the trick is to maintain that speed for roughly 100km's. However on the right diet and with the right bike it's not that difficult, especialy in a group where you can draft behind other people.
