exactly what i meant. when twats like bush and blair say "support our troops!" it's a way of saying "this war is happening whether you like it or not, get used to it" with a subtle undertone of "if you protest the war, you're undermining our boys' morale" emotional blackmail

I had no credit and it was the best I could afford. Sure I could have gotten a 300zx or some other heavily used sports car but that's not what I wanted. I wanted something sleek, sexy and professional. Something I could feel proud of while driving to the job that pays for it. Something that could handle a few years worth of 110 miles per day. I get tons of compliments on it though; last weekend I actually had a group of HS girls yelling at me like my gf wasn't even in the car :dork:.

I don't support Bush, I support our military. No matter what a dumbass President does I will always support the people who fight for and serve this country.

that makes little sense.

So if a corrupt president decided to wage an unjust war, and the soldiers ended up slaughtering thousands of innocents, you'd support them, just out of principle?

to me, that's the definition of blind patriotism, which does no service to the good of the country.

And you hate the soldiers who follow orders and do what they are told when you disagree with the orders? I know some bad things have happened, but most of our soliders are good people fighting for their country, good to know you support them......

would you treat nazi soldiers the same way? They were obedient and followed the orders of a madman. (also i never said i hate them. I just said I think it's wrong to support them)

btw I'm not even american, not that it should matter. I don't believe in relative judgements in this context.

Well it all depends, the Nazis that were in control were madmen who wanted to kill and dominate all, they were evil and assholes. I do not support them. As for the German solider on the ground who had a choice of fighting or dying and was not directly involed with crimes against humanity I do not hate him, although being on the other side I don' much like that, but I don't hate the solider for that

lol evil assholes - and U.S. soldiers are far from evil right? Just decent and misguided folks.

The world cannot be divided up that way (between good and evil).

Put it this way:

Bush has waged an immoral war.
Soldiers have a responsibility to choose their wars, else they are no better than nazis who blindly follow madmen.
Subscription to authority (ah forgive me, I was just following orders) is absolutely no excuse.

Sure it makes me understand them. I'm sure most of the soldiers are wonderful human beings - BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE DESERVING OF SUPPORT.

but then again, I guess it depends on what you mean by support.

I support the soldiers that do thier job with honor and dignity. The soliders that fight for their country and show pride to the world and kindness to the civilians. Just remember, the news doesn't tend to cover the soliders that are alive and doing this, they mainly cover those KIA or who are being dishonorable and undignified.

what do you mean by support?

Do you think they should even be in there in the first place?

What do you think about supporting the soldiers (and families of soldiers) who were already enlisted when the war started - the ones whose units were called up for Iraq? Do you think it was their responsibility to claim conscientious objector status and flee to Canada? I'm not being belligerant, I'm just curious how you thought they should carry out that responsibility?

Meaning that I feel that people who volunteer for the military and serve with honor and distinction deserve my respect, our country's respect and the necessary tools to get the job done.

As for the who Iraq situation I have a confusing view kind of. I think the war is justifyable by the fact that the Iraqis are no longer under Saddam's rule and free from that opression. I feel that Bush is a dumbass who should have said that instead of the "OMG they got WMDs!!!" because that was just plain stupid of him. I also think that Bush has really fucked up with the planning and execution of the war. So I do not support the way in which Bush started or is fighting this war, but I support our troops that have freed the Iraqis from Saddam.

ok, so we disagree on the war issue, not on the principles of supporting troops.

I'd hope that if you found a war unjustified, you would not support the troops, as this would seem to lend direct support to the war.

I'm just fairly sick and tired of the dogmatic mantra - the o'reilly chant: SUPPORT OUR TROOPS.

it's pretty mindless imo
