Correct, the assignment was to draw yourself as a simpson character..
I was under the impression that you posted that picture as one of your pieces. I knew it was for a contest, but was just stating that if you're trying to show me up, at least post something with your own style.

I don't understand... Do you guys visit art galleries weekly or something? I really don't see how that drawing is bad in any way. It's not supposed to look exactly like a photo realistic picture.
you dont have to visit art galleries to see if someone is drawn nicely, sir. see, it lacks detail. and i dont mean that in a realistic way, i mean it lacks shadowing and highlights. it makes it all look very flat. also, the use of color is more than bland which makes it look unfinished. it also looks as if you never heard of an eraser and just kept the obvious mistakes as you went along.
the pic you posted here has some charme, simply because its all black & white. the technique may not be there but the hard contrast makes it ok to look at.
if you look longer than 15 seconds you'll notice the obvious failure in draing skills though.
If you could point out some mistakes, I'd be more than happy to fix them. I drew this in about 10 minutes, scanned it, fixed it up a little and posted it here. Wasn't really keeping a close eye on what was wrong. I guess I do that with most of my drawings.

I really don't think I'm getting fair opinions here. I just have that feeling that some of you take your dislike for me and automatically decide to post something negative, just to smite me.

Actually, when I took my first art class we started drawing objects like cubes, cones, spheres, boxes, and pyramids which teach you how to angle give things depth and once you did that, you would add a light source and work on shading.

Well I probably could've guessed that. Back in high school when we were forced to take art classes, we'd draw fruit, use ink well pells, cross hatch. I know how to do this stuff, but I want to take classes for poportioning and things like that. I think someone here mentioned before that I should take a life drawing class.

Usually, if you do have talent, you can figure out these kinds of things yourself by comparing your work to the work of professionals. As you practice (and practice you must, every day at least an hour or two), you learn how to use shape, color, light, perspective and proportions. You can do this without going to art school - preferably you should already know this stuff when you start taking classes.
Sorry, but you're nowhere near there yet.

ah yes, indeed. after that you can put it to good use drawing apples & bananae

Well simply stating "It's awful.", really doesn't convince me that you even took the time to look at it for more than five seconds. Yes, the background may be preset brushes from Photoshop, but that's not the only thing in the picture.

start thinking in negative shapes. Think of the siloheutte of what you are drawing, you are drawing symbols and not actually what's there, the drawing with the girl in the bikini looks as if it's a bad trace of a picture.
The best advice I could give you is to pick up this drawing book.

Look, i'm no art critic, i just look at it and think 'well, that's awful'. It's an uneducated opinion, yes, but i don't see why you should dismiss it because of that. If anything you should probably realise that when someone who can't draw at all thinks it's shit, it most likely is.
