Moving into a new house soon and have obtained some old PCs. Want to use them for Q1 server, Q3 server, UT server, File Server and Gateway PC. Most are laptops so it's all good in terms of power consumption.

But the worst is a 486, which I think I can use as a reasonable gateway/firewall. Sure as fuck don't want to run 98 on it.

The bootable CD is just a teaser for the actual install.

I use Linux for mail servers, file servers, firewalls, programming, and various network assessment tools.

However, my linux box is nothing more than a command line that I SSH into.

edit: which reminds me, you can use a bootable linux distro to decrypt the windows NT hive and change administrator passwords at your leisure.

Same here. I hacked my router (which already ran uClinux natively), compiled a custom kernel and added a few useful utilities (nmap, tcpdump, etc). Yep, I'm a nerd...
