im not saying i dont belive it...my components are just fine, im saying the test is kinda of dumb if people with the same system spec dont get roughly the same score. this isnt about hardware..its about how stripped down and tweaked out you can run windows. Getting a 2k difference in score from one run to the next is dumb.

It stands to reason that stripping unneeded services out is going to increase the score as there are more resources for the app to use. Hardware also plays a big role, as Soap said.

yes yes of course. I’m not denying that, or saying I wasn’t aware of it. I was just trying to point how silly it is that it makes that big of a difference in the test. He says my scores are shit for an xp3200 w/x800XTPE, yet he is comparing them to a tweaked, or a fresh installed machine. My score was practically the same as odium’s first score, as it should be. I would hardly say my machine is bloated..I went through the services when I installed windows and shutoff unnecessary ones. I’m running every day background processes... AV, msn, IRC...etc. I was only questioning why he thinks they are shit.

I had my 05 scores in a txt file from when I ran it a couple months ago when I bought my new video card... it was 5650.

If you've tweaked your system and are happy with it then don't worry about a synthetic benchmark. I haven't even bothered running benchmarks on my latest system because, quite frankly, I don't care. It does what I require it to do well.

But yeah, Software is part of the "build".. now installing bobs mega game pack, isnt part of a build obviously, because the machine will run without it..

but without OS, Drivers, ect the machine is a paper weight.. so guess what part comes into play as part of the build? OS and Driver setup.. DOH!

Shaft I don't know if you're doing that to annoy him, but specially with graphics drivers you can inproove your FPS a lot by changing drivers, or indeed cause your system to be slower than ever.

I did clean up a bit TBH. I stopped unused apps (My first run had PSP running in the background) and stripped a few things (MSN, ie was open before etc).

So yeah, thats what the huge loss was, but still, a 3k loss is quite large (From turbs to mine, but thats a BFG card for ya)

Yeah, I have old video drivers, I didnt know new catalyst drivers came out this month. Ill update later and give it another run.
