i don't care what they call this, even if they just called it "Enemy Territory" and k'd the Quake Wars bit, it's still going to be one helva game. The animation is unlike any I've seen, and the graphics are impecible. It's not perfect in terms of visuals, but it's pretty damn nice, and the game play seems close to zoids ctf style, ie: lots of team work but you could probably go on a mad solo spree and do some major damage on your todd...o'dium wrote:Really? I think it has zero to do with quake other than the strogg.Kracus wrote:It reminds me a bit of Tribes aspect with Quake FPS style.
In fact if it wasn't for the strogg being called strogg we could probably be fooled into thinking it was another game entirely.
the killzone trailer, which is so obviously 110% scripted and optimized for viewing pleasure, is hot... but you know if you were playing that game and you took one step away from your team you're gonna get buttock penetrated by a 20" enemy cock.
Well the marines I imagine will have the FPS feel that id will probably demand. When I play any other FPS style game each developer tends to lend it's own style. This goes for Engine crossovers too like say the Jedi games made off the Q3 engine. They all have that Q3 engine feel. You could load up 5 different games with mixed engines and I'd probably be able to tell you which engine was used for which game just based on how the game feels when playing it.o'dium wrote:Really? Well that feeling only comes from id software. They have the best feeling engines so to speak for FPS games. So I expect this game bearing the Quake name will have that feel, unlike Tribes. Tribes has it's own style but I absolutely love the teamplay element in that game. So far no other games really impressed me more in that sense. I'm talking Tribes 2 here I haven't really played the recent one much. But that type of teamplay with cool vehicles and a lot of different classes in the game make for an awsome game if you ask me.
The only thing I REALLY hope they implement well is a way for a general commanding units about to have a REALLY good gui to interface with the other players on the map. Almost RTS style I'd say. That would be the perfect game.

what so many team games since q2 have missed in my honest opinion is the ability to go solo during the game, you are always almost 100% dependant on the rest of your team, and if your team sucks, you have a shit, frustrating game, accomplishing nothing and getting pissed off with the wankers on your team.
back in zoids ctf, your team could suck, but if you were slick enough, it didn't matter... that much. you could still accomplish something and do some hefty damage and still be in a position to score something... and that counts for something.
with killzone and alike, if you don't have the backup, your fucked... with this, it looks like you can just grab yourself a jeep and go nutts.... ie: have some fun!!

Well, i can see mods for this being amazing.
Star wars anybody? hell even a RTS mod, the map IS big enough for a top down view
Shame that it has a doomed SP game though. Games like this always rock online but always turn out poor SP... It will just end up being a series of mini missions, which is about all it should be IMHO. Any more and i cant see it working?

You know what though I think the game would be MUCH better if a commander had the ability to give out missions and objectives. That way the individual player actualy has a goal in the game to acheive a victory, some could be solo missions like infiltration to destroy generators, sensors, etc... That way you still function as a team and yet are really playing on you're own. You're just coordinated because someone else is looking out for you.Turbanator wrote:what so many team games since q2 have missed in my honest opinion is the ability to go solo during the game, you are always almost 100% dependant on the rest of your team, and if your team sucks, you have a shit, frustrating game, accomplishing nothing and getting pissed off with the wankers on your team.

Yes but in zoid ctf, if your team sucked you could just strafe jump your way into the base at 100mph, steal the flag, and get back to base before the alarms even finished going off...Turbanator wrote:what so many team games since q2 have missed in my honest opinion is the ability to go solo during the game, you are always almost 100% dependant on the rest of your team, and if your team sucks, you have a shit, frustrating game, accomplishing nothing and getting pissed off with the wankers on your team.

Now, there is slightly more needed. There will be loads of mini missions, and one unit needs another to work. You can be a soldier and fight it out without a lieutenant, but you also cant be a lieutenant without being a medic. And we all know you cant be a medic without a soldier... etc... I think the same may apply here, even getting as far as pilots and gunners as well as tactical planning...

Roe, while short as fuck, is about 10x as good as doom 3 was. A lot of things that were shit have been fixed, although a few monster closits and teleporting enemies happen...
As for HL2 it was fantastic. You will get mixed results from most people here, but IMHO if you can get over the old style visuals and box maps, its really a good game.

They are first person, and you have guns... Erm... Thats itLeonardoP wrote:they can be easily compared. i say fuck it, quake 4 all the way!o'dium wrote:Thats the kind of attitude that gets you flamed around here. HL2 is a fantastic game for what it is.

Yes, and they are both aimed at different gamers, with different story telling.LeonardoP wrote:they're both at war. they both have aliens. both have squads. and they have vehicles. no comprare senor?
Quake 4 could be great, but it could also turn out shite. We dont know. We just know how it looks, and it does look ok from the trailers. However, many many games looked ok from trailers and turned out to be complete shite.
So, Quake 4 could be shite. But HL2, we *KNOW* is a great game Why would it get so many YES results if it wasn't? Just because its HL, and thats the enemy?
Fuck I thought most of us here had grown up when it came ot the great game "war". Your ok son, you can sit there and play Q4 until the cows come home. Me, i'll be playing HL2: Aftermath, Unreal 2007, Quake Wars AND Quake 4...
