Android tablets?
Re: Android tablets?
I wonder how long you stand in the isle at the store trying to decide on what kind of toilet paper to buy. Does the staff get mad at you at closing time?

As a rule i step onto any flight over 6 hours as sleep deprived as possible, i discovered long ago that sleep is by far the best form of in flight entertainment. Why you'd want to be awake the whole goddamn time is a bit beyond me tbh...
God i hate flying, there's smelly people everywhere and crying children and unsightly fat morons... especially on a flight to the US i imagine. Just do yourself a favor and knock yourself out for the duration of the flight somehow.

Re: Android tablets?
so all this with no stops in between to update your media? my point remains, even if it was continuous you'd run out of battery long before you run out of 32gigs of stored entertainment. I'll bet you take 3 full suitcases when you go for a weekend away when all you need is a toothbrush ay?Don Carlos wrote:UK to NYC then NYC to Vegas then Vegas to UK
About 20 hours of flights all in all? Plus there will be other uses like train journeys and late night work entertainment

Re: Android tablets?
no shit sherlock. i just meant that when it comes to choosing a tablet, don't sweat it so much. they're all pretty decent, and they'll probably all do what you want. if movies/TV is your thing, get one with expansion; if long battery life, get a transformer with a battery in the keyboardDon Carlos wrote:Can't take a full sized desk top PC on planes and trains and hotel rooms to watch films :/seremtan wrote:try to remember that whatever you get, it's really just a toy computer for watching Youtube videos in bed. it's not as big a deal as getting a decent desktop

Re: Android tablets?
As mentioned, I want to put MKV films on there that are between 8 and 12 gig each. This is for a two hour film, so if I have 20 hours of flights I need quite a few films. And if I decide to have a sleep I'll likely hand it over to someone else in my family whom I'm travelling with. Also I have 3 days in NYC and 5 days in Vegas, so I don't plan on wasting my time updating media or any other such menial tasks.PrMink wrote:so all this with no stops in between to update your media? my point remains, even if it was continuous you'd run out of battery long before you run out of 32gigs of stored entertainment. 8 gigs for a 2 hour movie? Seriously, you are doing it wrong.
Re: Android tablets?
I tried that with wine, didn't work.Ryoki wrote:As a rule i step onto any flight over 6 hours as sleep deprived as possible, i discovered long ago that sleep is by far the best form of in flight entertainment. Why you'd want to be awake the whole goddamn time is a bit beyond me tbh...

Why? 1080p DTS - quite average reallyEraser wrote:8 gigs for a 2 hour movie? Seriously, you are doing it wrong.
Re: Android tablets?

Re: Android tablets?
8GB for a HD movie's fine on a standard 40"+ telly, but utterly pointless on a comparatively tiny tablet screen DC.

Uh...with the correct app, yes? It's just a codec...? VLC and CineXPlayer offer this featureMKJ wrote:because your tablet will output DTS sound eh?
Matt - converting a bunch of films to be iPad compatible and smaller a sounds like a right ball ache, I just wanted to drag and drop stuff. If you are aware of a way to convert to 720p MP4 easily enough let me know (I've done zero research on it as it goes)

afaik there isnt an ipad app that will decode dts, you need to put 2chan aac track in there when you encode

Oh for crying out loud. Just get the iPad. It's an amazing device.
When will you be in NYC? I'll be there in a couple months...

Re: Android tablets?
Maybe it can play DTS streams by down mixing to 2 channels, but you'll lose the surround effect of DTS that way, making DTS nonsense for an iPad.Don Carlos wrote:Uh...with the correct app, yes? Also, quite a few 720p videos available everywhere. And even 1080p doesn't have to be 8 gigs. With some clever compression you get a much more economical file size.
The thing is, since you are space limited, the smart choice is to sacrifice quality for file size. Putting 8GB movies on a 32GB device is just pointless and gives you little in the way of an improved viewing experience.
Re: Android tablets?
Lots of YIFY 1080p releases are only 2GB and you'll be hard pressed to notice quality issues on a tablet screen.

I don't get to choose what resolution or bit rate they are given to me in so they are what they are.
If anyone has any hints or tips on how to convert them, let me know

Re: Android tablets?
Convert? Damn bro, just pull em off of the pirate bay or Usenet. Less hassle.
Re: Android tablets?
MKVtools will make a mobile compatible AAC track in the file from the dts/ac3 track. It leaves the video portion alone and takes only minutes.
