I know quite a few people with those evil guns. But to be fair, most of my friends are in law enforcement.

I don't really have any friends who are into guns, but I know some people on our local forum, MontrealRacing, who like guns.
Personally, I like guns myself. Unfortunately, we're pretty limited with respect to what we can buy in Quebec. I'm not really interested in anything that shoots uses less than a full-power cartridge, though. If I manage to move to the USA in a state which is gun-friendly, I would like to get these (not sure if battle rifles and GPMGs can be purchased by individuals, maybe as collectors items?):
FN FAL
FN MAG
Armalite AR-50

That one I'm
definitely getting if I move to the USA, it's just too sick! From what I've seen so far the best part is that it has very little recoil considering it fires the .50 BMG due to a very efficient muzzle brake, right? How much do you get those cartridges for? Have you ever shot it with tracers?

You're correct about the recoil. It feels about like a 12 gauge shotgun.
I haven't bought ammo for it in quite a while, but I bet it's about $2.00-$2.50 per round at the moment. I do have tracer and incendiary rounds...

Do you know if there are states where individuals can buy a GPMG? It would be so sick to load one up with a belt full of tracers and light a scrap car on fire at a range

You see this is where you become disconnected with reality and start to sound like a tea-bagger.
But hey, keep not bothering to do ANY research into this topic so you can feel justified in protecting your right to bear arms no matter what the societal cost.
As usual, you ignore the substance of my post and respond with vague generalities. It's the same thing that you and GFY always do when you can't refute what I'm saying. Just make some more self-righteous bullshit comments and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Sure, I've done no research, how could I if I hold a different opinion than you? I don't think like you, so I must be crazy and stupid. I don't support knee-jerk legislation and emotional reactions so I'm just an idiot that blindly supports gun rights at any cost.

Nazi-esque collection program. Police state

You have really fucking lost it. You just have no clue as to how the rest of the world works do you?
Of course, because the Nazis didn't enact the 1938 German Weapons Act allowing only those "persons whose trustworthiness is not in question" to own weapons (and expressly forbidding Jews from owning weapons), therefore making it a legitimate comparison. And you're right, I'm totally off the wall with my comment about a police state, because there's no reason to worry at all about the government, police, and paramilitary organizations like Blackwater being the only ones allowed to have guns. It's not as if you yourself have made a bunch of posts in the POLICE STATE thread or anything. Fuck, I'm just a ranting, paranoid loon. Fucking Waco and Ruby Ridge? My own personal fantasies. Violent criminals that would LOVE to know that private citizens don't have guns anymore? They don't exist.
So, by all means, keep dismissing every point I make with your self-righteous bullshit comments. Ignore everything I've posted recently or in the past about agreeing with common-sense gun laws, about how some people simply shouldn't be allowed to have guns, how mental health screenings are a good idea as a prerequisite for gun ownership, and that the real problem here is a cultural and mental health crisis. Just smoke some more weed and keep telling me I've lost it because I don't think like you do.

Well, considered a response.
I used to own a .303 full wood (WW1 type bolt action)
a 22 semi auto & scope
pump action short barrel shot gun (ex Prison)
an AR15 ARMALITE replica (.22 calibre) ... I scared the shit out of a Vietnam Vet when I showed him
and an SKS 7.62mm
When I say used to, I sold the lot years ago.
Got sick of them being unsecured and having to clean them more than I fired them. I was a young family man then.
Like I said, a responsible gun owner (long before they outlawed private (unlicenced ownership here).
As to used? Well...
I have thrown a few live hand grenades, smoke HE & gas
Machine guns: fired the Bren, an old (as me) and .303 calibre, GPMG M60 Machine gun, and the F1 SMG 9mm,
Rifles: 303 rifles, SLR (7.62 NATO) and a couple of long arms, single shot percussion, flint lock muskets, can't recall details
Shot guns: S&Ws, various, and a lovely semi auto, mag fed, as fast as you pull the trigger they fire, SPAS 'Street sweeper"
Fired a couple of RL (err rocket launchers), M79 and M66.. Played with a Carl Gustav Anti Tank one in practice but never did fire a shot.
Come to think of it, I was in a 4 x4 army jeep type vehicle with a 105mm recoil less, in one session but never fired a round. They are big guns.
I would say I enjoyed gun ownership but appreciate the removal from the public masses.
Sounds good (maybe) but I have never fired a round in anguish, but I cocked a SG in a prison riot once

Godwin's law strikes again. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it took this long, considering how up in arms NS has been about the issue lately. Ha, up in arms.

Far too many people I know are far too into guns.
Like, Zombie edition assault rifle far too into them. Think everyone should be armed into them. In fact, Id go so far to say, I dont know a "single" person who only owns "one" gun. Everyone I know who owns guns has 10 or more.
Bunch of loons.
I like to shoot at the range sometimes. But could live without it. I'm gonna get my concealed carry here soon, mostly for shits.

Nightshade wrote:...if this was exclusively an American problem that could be solved by gun control, how does one explain the 18 dead killed by Mark Lepine at Universite de Montreal? What about the 77 dead before the muzzle of Anders Behring Breivik at Utoya Island? What about the 119 killed in Mumbai?
Breivik purchased his ammo online from an American gun site, which was an entirely legal transaction thanks to the lax gun laws in the US. I'm not too familiar with Norwegian gun laws but i'm pretty sure that calibre isn't over the counter stuff over there, i wager he'd have great difficulties getting his hands on so much of it if he couldn't have ordered it.
As for the Mumbai thing, comparing terrorism (and to be honest i would hesitate not to put Breivik in that catagory) to random shootings is silly and unproductive as they are rather different phenomena. So only that first one is a legit comparison, really.
My 2 cts on this are summed up by that cartoon - if you want lax gun laws, occasional random shootings is the price you pay.
Oh, as for the original question, when i was 13 this one kid in my class memorized Janes Defense Weekly or someshit and could autistically cough up stats on about every smallarm ever created. It was a proper fascination, one that only went away when he found tanks and assorted armored vehicles more interesting a year later. The year after that he found out about girls.
