Well there's lotsa characters, some smart dudes, some pretty fuckin' weird dudes to keep people entertained/guessing, a fairly good spread of nationalities, plus this place is lenient as fuck. Every other forum I've gone to I've had to tell myself "this ain't queue three dubs", so as to remain somewhat of a non-vulgar asshole.

As a noob, I don't know if I can offer too much insight but I rather enjoy the banter of these forums. I think all forums have lost members due to "Social Media" sites like Reddit and also (blarg) "twitter"... Just as Bethesda now has a "Doom" forum where the kids post topics about Doom as if there had never been a prior Doom discussion place on the internet, I can well imagine that somewhere in the Reddit tree that there's an ongoing Quake 3 discussion.

Over at TTLG it's nearly a mirror image of the kind of doomsayer threads and concerns over low membership. Yet the regulars there carry on as well.

Anyway, I hope this place continues to thrive. And I hope that some of the big-wigs like Lunaran and Method come back every so often to spread the joy and their WIP stuff.

Regarding this forum, it's the personalities and the opinions. Plus, I can't stand Facebook or Twitter or any of that crap. I'll always be a forum-type poster.

Oh, and this forum taught me more about recognising alts and general forum chicanery than any other forum I visit. No-one makes assholes as good at what they do as this place

As 4days says though, it's a massive shame about the loss of information prior to the 6-month downtime. There was a wealth of stuff here which has been lost.

I'm also nbohr1more over at TTLG (and various other forums), I am pretty new over there as well. I mostly signed-up due to my interest in The Dark Mod (of which I am now the promoter somehow... basically I posted "Hey, nobody is putting nice announcements on Moddb then they said "Then you do it!"... " ).

My oldest forum memberships are at places like Rage3D and Beyond3D... from the heyday of the big DX9 hardware debates...
