Don't do it! That's what caused my problem. All you're doing is pushing the wax further down (even if if doesn't seem that way when you look at the q-tip itself, heh)

I've no doubt that the area close to my eardrum is now completely plugged. It's incredibly disorientating having decent hearing in one ear and the other almost completely deaf.

The warning on the box is liability for retards who jab things too far into their ears. Any competent person can use a q-tip without damaging their ear or pushing stuff further in.

The point is, unless you have an endoscope attached to the end of the q-tip (we call them cotton wool buds btw) then you don't know if you're just pushing wax further down, or collecting it all. Just look at those videos in this thread and you'll see that wax is a tricky bugger to collect.

All I know is that my problems started the moment I used these q-tips and I was very careful not to go too deep into my canal. I won't be using them in future, thats for damn sure.

Anyway, irrigation booked for next Wednesday. From what I gather, it's kinda like a water jet sprayed into your ears, removing all the gunk. Looking forward to being able to hear again. Thank fuck I sorted all my mixdowns last week.

Anyone had this procedure done? How was your experience?

25% alcohol/75% warm water. Flush til the plugs come out. Works like a charm. I actually have it done every so often.

Edit: Also, there might be something to the ear bud vs. cans thing. I notice I had greater wax build up when I was welding (earplugs) every day then when I was working outside the shop for weeks. Ear buds and earplugs, I don't believe, are natural things for the ear. Perhaps they press more crap into the ear?

the ear reacts by producing more ear wax. i like earphones and i clean my ears with a q-tip every day. i know that it pushes the ear wax deeper into my ears, but i'd rather use an ear cleaning solution once in a while than ruin my earphone filters. ear wax is rarely a problem for me either way and i've been using IEM's for years.

Man you guys are fucking weird. I have wax buildup in my ears like maybe once every 6 months? Usually cleaned out while I take a shower. But every fucking day? For real? Fuck man, if I needed to clean them that often I'd start making candles or someshit.
