Another project under way, a few weeks ago I received my insulation delivery, it was much larger than expected. This is the pic I took after half the truck was unloaded and I panicked. there were still 2 more palates of insulation on the truck.



The forklift was too big to put the stuff in my garage so I had to mule this crap in myself.

This weekend I knocked out the demolition of all the old walls made from scrap wood the previous owner probably found in the trash He used so many fing nails I just cut it to pieces with the reciprocating saw because the sledge hammer didn't even budge it..

Looks like you've got your work cut out for you. This year I'll be doing a renovation to our master bathroom. I'll be extending the footprint of my home, moving around plumbing fixtures and adding a huge shower. Working with CBS walls and an existing concrete slab should prove to be quite fun.

Keep posting. The progress is interesting.

Did you put down some type of sealant before the insulation?

No, once I sorted out my drainage problem it's been a dry basement. The foam, which is caulked and taped at the seams is my vapor barrier.

a hygrometer has been keeping tabs on the relative humidity in my basement. The last 6 months low 26% and high 32% which is very dry for a basement.

Thought I would dig this up since I finally finished my basement and made it a livable space. Looking at this thread I and the material delivery date of January 2010 it's been a long painful road but for the most part it's done minus a few finishing touches and the bathroom/laundry room is not even started



We kicked around different flooring options for about a year and we finally settled on engineered Hardwood, expensive but it's the only wood option for below grade installs that we liked. I painfully used the Glue down method because it was a 5" wide Plank, next time I will hire someone it wasn't a hard job it was freakin' tedious and messy. The end result is a rock solid floor bonded with a 3/16" layer of rubber, Nice to walk on and does not budge.

Nice work man. So how is that kids play pen coming around? You still working on that too? I remember you ordering half a ton of rubber mulch for that.

We didn't go with Rubber due to the cost. The photo below shows about $275.00 in Rubber much vs $275.00 in certified Playground wood mulch. If I went with rubber it would have set me back $3000.00.





The mulch worked out nice for the season, but with mulch comes rot and shrooms so this November I'm going to build in a huge sandbox and replace all the much with pea gravel. Whoo hoo more work

We also put in a patio this summer, I hired someone because I just couldn't see myself digging out the area and lugging bricks. Made a great space for hanging out with the family and friends although I was working in the basement all summer so I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to...

One thing that always kills me about finished basements is the floor being so hard because it's on the concrete slab. It seems like you could make it so much more comfortable by laying down a sub-floor -- even if it's only a couple inches high. That concrete kills your joints after a while.

I'm not sure if it's against codes or anything -- maybe there is a reason for not adding them in, aside from the additional cost and effort.

Also...it's pretty obvious this guy died from AIDS...
