it was because any South Vietnamese with a pilots license was landing on midway with refugees during the operation frequent wind evacuation (i know it sounds like a fart joke... seriously wtf were they thinking?). To make room for more incoming light aircraft/helicopters and people they would dump the SV aircraft over the side.

Not that I support Geoff in any way, but the Bismark did sink the Hood in fairly short order, and was only caught up to by the Royal Navy after 1 lucky torpedo from a Swordfish damaged it's rudder and forced it to steam in circles...
yeah and then the brits unloaded with everything they had and they never breached the inner hull...thus it didn't sink...when the geramns realised it wasn't going down they scuttled it...
