On Home you need to be in safe mode for it to work iirc.Foo wrote:Only if he's on Pro. that can't be done on home to my knowledge.Cool Blue wrote:
You need to take ownership of the old 'My Documents' folder.
Right click the folder > Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner
Select your current user from the list of users in the dialog box. They click 'apply'. Can take a few minutes to overwrite the security, but afterwords you'll have full access again.
We can agree on this one. I've gota a friend who has rolled it out to his 2,000+ PC network over the last month with no issues at all. I've rolled it out to both my networks via Software Update Services and haven't had a single issue either. Nobody I know other than people online have experienced issues with it.riddla wrote:
I'm a sysadmin and know so. Installed SP2 on about 50+ existing installs without so much as a hiccup.
His crash is because of something that has modified the OS, no bones about it.

Bullshit. You're claiming to have been an IT pro since you were 10 years old if that was the case since you're 22 now. At least make your lies believable man :icon19: .
Dont you have some cock to smoke funbags?riddla wrote:I knew Thoapbuoy was lying
Thats not what you implied. You've worked on computers and repaired yours (or your parents) when it broke for twelve years. Thats a very different thing than fixing, building, of maintaining PCs professionally for that long.SOAPboy wrote:Yes, im 22.. ive been building and repairing computers for 12 years.. first machine when i was 10.. is that so hard to understand??
Rich parents = Anything i wanted
did i say IT PRO? no i didnt.. i said 12 years ive been working on the shit..
nice try mixing words tho, D for effort..
oh so true.Tormentius wrote:Bizzare apps installed or dodgy drivers are the two things which will bork an upgrade. Saying that a reinstall is required is unfounded and isn't close to what 75% of admins in N.America are saying.[/color]

I know more than a few desktop or network techs who work in this field (some recently having gotten into it) who would strongly disagree. A professional fix requires customer service, speed, accuracy and the ability to leave the customer feeling as if their money has been well-spent. A home fix lets you take however long you want, fuck up and not have anybody know it, and not near the requirement for service. Some of the concepts are the same but the task itself is quite different.SOAPboy wrote:
Considering ive had CUSTOMERS since i was 14, its not that far off bucko.. been on my own since 15.
Btw, Same issues fucking apply to "home" repair and "professional" repair.. same broken shit, same fucking fix..

As for length of time in this field that doesn't necessarily mean a lot. Last month I canned a "dekstop tech" who has supposedly been in this field "fixing" computers for over 20 years. The problem was he didn't know a damned thing about troubleshooting, the technical underpinnings of an OS, or getting a task done on time. I've since hired a replacement with 2 years experience who runs circles around his predecessor simply because hes worked hard to learn every single thing that he can in that shorter time.
