It is a good reason. Assuming said person wants DX10 games to be in DX10 instead of DX9.
This having to manually edit quotes is driving me fucking mad. Fix it.

Gee, maybe they'll include WinFS in THIS one.Fender wrote: Ahhh... so Windows Seven in 2012 then. Thanks.

Re: the more i use vista...
I agree with Foo, if you got Vista with a new computer, great. It's a small upgrade. But I wouldn't go out of my way to upgrade from XP.
I'm currently dual booting Vista on my iMac. It runs pretty well and hardware seems to do well with Boot Camp and Parallels. 10% chance it will hang on bootup, though I'm not sure if that's a problem with Boot Camp or Vista or a little of both.
My other computers are running XP Pro, Media Center 2005, and Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is my favorite for innovation.
Edit: oh, I got Vista for free from work, which is why I have a copy without "going out of my way".
And I hope Windows 7 turns out to be everything that Microsoft over-promised and under-delivered with Vista while they were showing off Longhorn. Pretty disappointing how the "Wow" turned into "Meh".

but yesGrudge wrote:http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=592seremtan wrote: no
obviously they won't achieve that in this case howeverThe Windows teams a while back set themselves the goal of releasing new versions of Windows client and Windows server every two years, alternating between major and minor releases.
Re: the more i use vista...
um, no? you may as well get XP and just upgrade when vista becomes necessaryFoo wrote:No need to upgrade for it now, probably won't be for a year or two. As discussed in a previous thread though, I had to concede that if you're buying a new PC, there's little point in sticking with XP, may as well get one with Vista.
Re: the more i use vista...
and i will admit that i have vista because of two reasons:obsidian wrote:I agree with Foo, if you got Vista with a new computer, great. It's a small upgrade. But I wouldn't go out of my way to upgrade from XP.
1. it was free through academic MSDN download
2. the two computers that have it were both fresh builds on clean disks
it was like... do i reinstall xp or just say fuck it and put on the new shiny stuff
xp in that situation is actually more of a burden since i know i'd be installing vista in a year or so anyway.
mind as well do it on day 1 and not have to worry about doing another os install for another 3 or 4 years.
Re: the more i use vista...
OEM cost is much lower than retail pricing, and they've closed a lot of the loopholes that allowed you to buy an OEM windows copy with any piece of hardware like a hard drive. Now you really need to purchase a full system.seremtan wrote:um, no? you may as well get XP and just upgrade when vista becomes necessaryFoo wrote:No need to upgrade for it now, probably won't be for a year or two. Re: the more i use vista...
also, why get another copy of xp if you already have one?
even if you're not planning on running it right away, get the OEM vista, install your old xp and leave vista on the shelf until SP1 comes out... then install and patch it.

Re: the more i use vista...
Seems as if the OEM version of Vista is available for purchase here in Canada, without buying any actual hardware:

OEM may be a bit of trouble if you need to swap hardware, in particular, the motherboard, the only exception being a replaced motherboard for warranty repair.

Re: the more i use vista...
its available for free actually...and there r no problem with anything...
Re: the more i use vista...
Vista fucking suck imo.
Re: the more i use vista...
Why buy 2 OS's when you can just go ahead and have Vista already? XP had compatibility and other issues when it came out also, they were fixed. Vista will be the same way. I personally have had no problems so far. I'm also with Foo, no 'need' to upgrade but with a new pc, or as in my case a free copy, might as well.seremtan wrote:um, no? you may as well get XP and just upgrade when vista becomes necessaryFoo wrote:No need to upgrade for it now, probably won't be for a year or two. Re: the more i use vista...
well, i got a new PC at easter and got XP, which i know works with everything i want, instead of vista, which i know doesn't. when it does, then i'll bother
