Can anyone link to a good 4gb drive that is relatively cheap and works ok for readyboost?

Did you upgrade the nvidia driver to something new like 160.x? The early drivers where pretty horrific, known to cause slowdowns.
I just got the latest from the nVidia website which are:
ForceWare Release 158
Version: 158.18
Release Date: May 2, 2007
WHQL Driver
Yep that is good. 160.x is a beta release, but 158 should give you good performance.
