I've been around a lot of people in my life and the only people that swear a lot and insult others tend to have mental issues. I'm not a religious person. Having traveled a lot and meeting a vast amount of diverse people leads me to the conclusion that what goes on outside my window will always go on and continue to go on, and tend to repeat itself.
Typical.
Since you can't seem to have a discussion about facts (such as that you haven't addressed any of my questions) you instead direct the conversation to meaningless personal insults and focus on that...defending them to the death.
Let's get back to the real discussion:
- Can you fathom that people choose to pay attention when you feel it's a waste of time?
- Do you actually believe that the world outside your window is unimportant?
- Are you a virgin?

I'll answer your questions honestly just for the sake of it:
1. Of course, people gossip constantly and it's unfortunate that they do; the news is pretty much the same, they just try to convince you that your knowing matters.
2. No, I believe things that have no effect on my life are unimportant or things that will tend to re-occur on a constant basis are fairly unimportant such as crime, war, scandals, and most issues the news constantly posts articles or stories about. One might as well read the obituaries and talk about those -- people will die just as often as they will try to hurt each other.
3. I've had about 15 different girlfriends, and got one of them pregnant but she had an abortion.

If you think all news is simply gossip then you really are misinformed or uninformed. Either way you look dumb.

Again you seem to have an extremely cynical view of the media. If you're a citizen of the US you'd have good reason to be. But if you step back and look at the big picture the very fact that you are aware of the problem indicates you are also responsible for doing something about it.
Or not...just go back to sleep.

Thank God you haven't reproduced. You're still a candidate for a Darwin Award.

I was right in the first place. It's a waste of time having a conversation with you. You ask a series of questions in order to attempt more insults. Being that this is just some Internet gaming forum, your opinion is meaningless to me -- it'd probably be meaningless in real life as well. You may want to consider a mental clinic, if you haven't already.
You also might want to consider a new hobby:

If that's accurate, this account I'm using right now joined earlier than you, yet you have 5 times the amount of posts that I do. Consider your own advice and step outside of the window for awhile.
I'm sure you'll respond to this, seeing that you have nothing better to do with your time. :icon27:

Let's recap.
- You state that paying attention to the world is a waste of time and that it's also a waste of time cause you can't do anything about it.
- You then get hoity-toity and say anyone here is wasting their time talking about it because - again - there's nothing we can do about it.
- Somehow you think that ignoring a problem or an issue will make it not affect you
- You get locked in a circular arguement that says nothing matters until it affects you directly
- You attempt lame comebacks with 200 year old post count flames
Are you a goth?
Are you unaware that the simple concept of communication is the first step to information and that having information is someone's best chance of dealing with issues as they arise? Or would you rather be reactionary when it's too late? Perhaps Bush is right...no matter who attacks the US in any terrorist action he'll invade Iran...because who needs facts before making a decision?
I'm sure when the zombies take over you'll be the last person to know.

Uhm....dude....I registered in JANUARY 2005. You joined in DECEMBER 2005. If you can find a calender I'm sure you'll notice January comes before December...by just a couple of weeks.

Haha ... good catch. I still think you're an attention whore who needs a better hobby, based on all your other posts in this forum.

I have a new fan who checks out all my posts.
Man...face it...you're dumb. You want to stay dumb. You probably resent "smart people" because you can't converse with them on anything that is beyond your mailbox because you're dumb.
And you resent it enough to make a thread trying to justify (probably mostly to yourself) that it's ok to be dumb.

I'll bet he replies to this because he loves the attention and can't stand not having the last word.

There is CNN news and there is NYTimes news.
CNN news causes depression because it bombards you with breaking news, such as DEATH, TRAGEDY, BOMBS, KIDNAPPINGS, but doesn't give much investigative reporting or depth to their stories. It just covers the bare facts. You can't do much with that information, besides wail over it. Or ignore it, like you're attempting to do.
NYTimes at least offers breadth and depth to their stories, along with good investigative reporting, so that you'll have a better idea of not just what happened, but an inkling of why it happened. And this is important when you're talking to friends at the coffeeshop or your co-workers at the water cooler, because when one of them pipes up 'George W. Bush roxxors my soxxors' you can give point by point reasoning why he is wrong. And this, as insignificant as it seems, is democracy in action.

You make a good point mjrpes. I'll just stick to reading the newspaper and less to watching TV news. I was focusing on the wrong thing, the quantity vs. the quality of the news.

TV, the most powerful weapon on earth. There probably isn't a country in the world where it's govornment doesn't control it's broadcasting for that very reason.
The BBC is just to same - it appears independant but if it gets too close to the truth then heads roll - Greg Dyke for example
Not had one for a couple of years now, am much more chilled, go out more, not sold-to every 15 minutes, days are now 4 hours longer, weekends go on for ever and I can get all the news I want from a zillion perspectives on the net and not be fed a sanitized, one-size-fits-all, p.c. version from a talking head.
Will research items which 'are of interest to me' much further than a news bulletin would bother so I feel better informed.
Know plenty of people that don't watch anymore.
The TV tax in the UK costs around £8000 over a lifetime (£130 a year) and the govn't gets over £2 billion a year so they can easily afford to pay Jonathon Ross his £500,000 salary...

We don't have any license fees in the US. So I have a tv, but never watch it.
I watch Nip/Tuck and Grey's Anatomy with my gf, and try to catch the Daily Show when I can.... Other than that, I MIGHT see a few episodes of South Park or the Colbert Report, or some stand-up comedy.
I get the rest of my information selectively online, or from people I talk to (which I then usually verify online before putting any stock in it).
I personally think it not only keeps me fairly well-informed of world, national and local events, but also makes me a better person for having a broader knowledge of the human experience in general, and makes it possible for me to empathize and relate.
And I still have plenty of good belly laughs and joy in my life, along with some seriously enriching relationships.
And my 6-month-old puppy keeps me pretty entertained.
edit: The point being, you can still stay abreast of events and stay informed, and be just as happy as you would be otherwise. You just have to not be an idiot and have the world spoon-fed to you - especially through television.
I am so thankful my parents never let me sit on my ass in front of the tv when I was growing up.

It's pretty good, so is the CBC, but I'd rather not get dragged into another discussion on the subject so we'll leave it at that.

yes, seeing as BBC is like our ABC and is paid for by the gov, the poms have to pay a yearly fee, from memory its only a token amount, they use to have inspectors driving round in vans checking if you had a licence, kinda like the Young Ones episode where the inspector asked Vivien for his licence and he ate the tv

funny shit
