last week it was A$1.34

There are a couple of stations near me that don't take debit/credit, cash only. They are usually about 5c cheaper. Typically, a merchant has to pay 3% of the total transaction to MasterCard or Visa, especially small merchants, like mom'n'pop gas stations. So, if a gallon is $2.15, they'd normally pay about 6c per gallon to the CC company. By taking cash only, they pass that savings on to the consumer and sell higher volumes.

Every station I've seen along the freeway charges 5c extra for diesel on credit too.
