I'd recommend just about any Specialized.
Great bikes from the price.

Where abouts are you Jackal? If in Toronto, I can recommend a few bike shops.

Some of the Specialized bikes are pretty decent.

I'd take a look at some Felt bicycles... excellent value and I nearly bought the Felt F-80 last August... but ended up splurging a heck of a lot more on this one.

My friends were joking that I could buy a decent used car for the amount that I paid for my bike (I don't own a car). So I told them that I don't have to pay for insurance, gas and repairs. That shut them up pretty quick.

lol I own a car AND a bike, thanks. It's great, cause I can take my bike anytime I want and DRIVE to any location I feel like biking.

Not that I'm trying to bash you but common, you're comparing apples to oranges. I used to cycle insane ammounts of mileage and it still doesn't compare to a car dude.

Oh, also don't forget to budget for accessories, though you can pick them up slowly as you get more money.

Stuff like a high PSI floor pump, frame pump or compressed gas cartridges, extra tube, patch kit, tire levers, waterbottle & cage, bell, frame bag, apparel (helmet, gloves, shorts at least), lube, bike computer, etc. etc.

Not saying that you shouldn't own cars. Just saying that I have dumb ass friends.

obsidian wrote:I had a funny little accident on Sunday on that bike. I stopped over on the side of the road for a drink and had my right foot clipped into the pedal. I accidently leaned to the right and couldn't unclip in time and found myself rolling over with my face up to the sky with my back on the grass and the bike upside down on top of me with my foot still in the pedals.

I imagine I looked like a turtle that had somehow flipped over upside down on it's shell by the side of the road. I'm glad no one was there to see it, quite embarrasing. Scratched my right pedal a little though. :tear:
Hehe, I once couldn't unclip in time and went into a lake :icon7:

Yeah that happened to me when I first got clipless pedals, I forgot to unclip the first time and fell over. Only took that one time to teach me to unclip.

It happens to everyone. I fell over in the middle of a crowded intersection. Came right to a halt at the red light, teetered for a bit, struggled, thought "oh god...", and hit the deck.

They're mandatory here in Toronto. Some weird by-law that actually gets enforced every now and then when they do spot checks. I have a tiny sporty one that doesn't look too out of place.
