A society where everyone carries a weapon is not safer than one where only the police and a few criminals carry weapons.
The report found that the control room inspector on duty at the time did not initially send officers to the scene as it was "not safe".

So, basically I should buy myself a gun so that I can be a real man?seremtan wrote:actually there's nothing against self-defence here, and in some countries shooting at burglars is acceptable under some circumstances. it's just lots of euros are pussies when it comes to guns because they think a policeman's going to just pop up out of the ground to save them
So what do you think should happen?seremtan wrote:actually there's nothing against self-defence here, and in some countries shooting at burglars is acceptable under some circumstances. it's just lots of euros are pussies when it comes to guns because they think a policeman's going to just pop up out of the ground to save them
We have approximately 20,000 gun laws on the books right now, do you really think we need more? The fact that criminals don't get their guns legally and couldn't give a fuck about gun laws is the key issue that lawmakers in this country just don't get. And give the general population some credit, many states have concealed carry laws, and it hasn't turned into the OK Corral.losCHUNK wrote:Nightshade wrote:Well, that would be great, but it's just not the way things are over here. i can understand that but the whole mentality seems backwards to us
"if we give up our guns then criminals aint gunna give up there guns"
alright, fair enough like, but thinking like that isnt going to get you nowhere
i always thought that america should be bucking up its gun laws (instead of an outright ban, as it obviously wouldnt work... yet) , but being able to use a gun as self defence in the street sounds like its going to turn into human hunting season
"he swung for me with a baseball bat man, so i got a load of mates to shoot back and we managed to kill 10 of them"
"ok, fair enough it was self defence"
not to mention that the twat could be standing in the middle of town and he just so happens to be a bad shot
Kindly recuse yourself from this conversation if you're going to act retarded.Grudge wrote:You are basically fucked, no matter what.
heh, i aint going to get dragged into this again because last time we went through like 2 pages and achieved nothing ?Nightshade wrote:We have approximately 20,000 gun laws on the books right now, do you really think we need more? I think that education is a key factor in reducing gun crime. If people are trained to use them responsibly, instead of shunning the ala Rosie O' Donnell, then they won't be so taboo.
But isn't that what you are saying? All the criminals already have guns, so everyone else also need to get them to defend themselves?Nightshade wrote:Kindly recuse yourself from this conversation if you're going to act retarded.Grudge wrote:You are basically fucked, no matter what.
And I respect your opinions, but the fact is that there are a lot of violent, gun-wielding fuckwads in this country that don't give a fuck about gun laws. The existing laws make a legitimate gun owner a criminal if he defends himself in most cases. In most states, if you're threatened by someone, you have to exhaust ALL POSSIBLE means before using deadly force, including yelling for help, screaming rape, fire, etc., and running.losCHUNK wrote:heh, i aint going to get dragged into this again because last time we went through like 2 pages and achieved nothing ?Nightshade wrote:We have approximately 20,000 gun laws on the books right now, do you really think we need more? just saying that the concealed gun laws is a good idea, but in this particular thread, being able to defend yourself with the use of a deadly weapon in the street, i think thats a step back
at the end of the day, tis your country, just giving some outside views and ways in which other countries deal with the problem
i don't see a problem with law-abiding people without a violent criminal record owning guns, even for self-defence. gun violence levels are culturally-related, not firearms-per-household related. britain had a fraction of the shootings of the US even in the 19thc when the two countries had identical firearms laws (i.e. none at all).Foo wrote:So what do you think should happen?seremtan wrote:actually there's nothing against self-defence here, and in some countries shooting at burglars is acceptable under some circumstances. it's just lots of euros are pussies when it comes to guns because they think a policeman's going to just pop up out of the ground to save them

So the solution is for everyone to arm themselves? I'd say that's a pretty fucked up society. I for sure wouldn't want my children to grow up somewhere like that.Nightshade wrote:Not all criminals, no. But a lot of them do. Granted, most people don't need guns, but for those that do work in/travel through high-crime areas is it so ridiculous to arm yourself? I've been robbed at gunpoint before, and if I'd had the chance, I would have blasted the guy. I didn't have a gun, and he "had the drop on me", so in this case I had to pray that he didn't shoot me. That's a fucking shitty feeling, my friend.
Yes. That's exactly what I said, you mong. I think the cold over there has frozen your brain.Grudge wrote:So the solution is for everyone to arm themselves? I'd say that's a pretty fucked up society.
