I loved warsow (I even made some trickjumping demos on wdm1) until I found out the developers are a bunch of GPL-violating asshats

Really? Forums say code available on request.

yeah, which is a violation of the GPL; the source has to be as readily as available as the product itself
but the guys at warsow.net are pretty intent on it being their proprietary baby, so they make you beg for the source
and even then they usually don't grant access to it
basically they took qfusion, which is a GPL-compliant project that uses the GPL-licensed Quake 2 source code, and they decided they didn't have to follow the rules when they made their own thing with it
don't get me wrong, the game is mad fun to play and the movement is awesome (wall jumps = boners), but they really need to learn a few things about OSS

Can't your report them? Maybe someone can force them to upload it.

it's id's GPL license that they are violating, and id already knows about it

I understand that, it would be a bad move for id to sue them since many people would feel like they are the big brother steping over them.
Maybe get a friendly email from someone with an idsoftware.com email to remind them that they need to keep the source available.

Well I wanted to see if I would be able to acquire the source code, couldn’t find it on the website so I joined the irc (quakenet.org #warsow) channel and got a link to the 0.07a release. I don't really see the problem.

I really don't like cell shading.

Not a big deal for a 'competitive mod' what it looks like, right?
I mean, cel shading and flat colour is pretty much what every comp player whines for with every new game OMG BRITESKINS PLZ!
Give them what they want, and they still complain

that's good that they are providing their source more readily these days
the last time I checked out warsow was about six months ago, and at that time some buddies of mine and I came up with the brilliant idea of fixing their weapons and removing the ridiculous strong/weak ammo system--when we tried to find their code, they did everything they could to avoid handing it out
anyway, warsow's cool, glad you stumbled upon it foo

Give the Game some incredably stupid storyline, Fix the jumping. port it to Xbox, Sell it.. and they would be making money asap.

the old 2003 alpha they had was really copyright breaching, using qrally music, doom3 leak textures even
