You should get a 256mb 6800GT if you're going to spend any money at all. You might want to get a bit more ram too. You really need a minimum of 1.5gigs for todays games, if you want flawless game play.
Don't make the mistake of buying something inferior, when you could save up and buy what you want.

lol. This debate is a fucking farce. hate asks for an inexpensive card that will run the latest games, and people rave on about buying the higher end nvidia cards with extra memory.

Not everyone can afford $400 video cards. And even some who can don't care enough to pay that much.
And Gramps, the 6600GT can often beat the 6800NU. Go look.
6800GT
Nothing less...

Why spend your money on something you may not be happy with? I'm sure Hate has job that would enable him to save some extra money. Besides, there's nothing wrong with explaining the results on an inferior purchase. Sure he could spend $150.00 on a shit card that won't perform well and then spend $150.00 in 6 months on another shit card that will be replaced after 6 months of minimum performance. Or, he could spend $250.00 and get something that will work great and last a year or so.
Hey look, this idea even saved him $50.00 down the road.

Yeah sorry, you're right. I think then to resolve this one we'd need to know some specifics from Hate:
What games he wants to run.
What his exact price range is.
What settings he wants to be able to run said games on.
Becuase unless we know those things I guess we're just arguing over unknown factors.

all the new ones
100-200$$
midrange settings
but gramps has a point about having a mediocre card
however they all turn mediocre after a year anyway
so why buy top of the line...

Then you should buy a card that you'll be happy with for a year.
