Just so nobody here blows a spleen or anything, here's the deal: Quake 4 is reviewed in our December issue. It's the one with Neverwinter Nights 2 on the cover. It's not actually supposed to hit newsstands until October 18th, but I guess some places have been getting it early.

Postal 2 got 79%

PC Gamer clearly cant be trusted.

EDIT: although they did give Riddick a 93% rating, which is good. I half expected them to give it 30%

i spent 5 years playing nonstop, so we just

spend another 5 playing this one

they rated this for fans, and 70% is only worth a lama score

I want to get that "play every day and *know* the servers will be populated" thing back. I used to jump on the servers as soon as I got home from work, and found my clanmates and clans I knew on there every day, without exception - there was an inevitability to the community. None of the shooters since Q3 have pushed my buttons or offered that, so I'm seriously in need of some good online carnage. I don't care about innovation, singleplayer, or originality. I just want my fragger-nation back. The review is pretty moot :)

yea it is. i once read a response to this question saying something stupid like, one of the publishers started putting out issues somewhere between every 28-30 days in an effort to beat the competitors to the newsstands. competition reacts, and we end up getting decembers issue in october.

i reckon at some stage i've seen an issue with a contest closing date that was like 2 days into the month of the issue :icon27:

I just find it amazing that Raven and id so dropped the ball here... I mean lets look at that score. We all knew it was never going ot be amazing, this is raven and id here.

But, they had a few good ideas and they just did nothing with them...? The vehicles levels sounded good but the movies look very weak, and the stroggification part is a cool idea, but even that doesn't really get used to well. Some of the things I have read about it just dont make sense...?

Ahh well.

Just remember that most games get 8/10 these days, and this got 7/10. That doesn't mean its terrible, it just means its "not great, but playable".

I dont agree with HOW it got that score though. I find it crazy to say X game is amzing for having a feature, but then Y game uses it 10 seconds later and its old old old. Do they expect every new game to have new features or something? I fucking wish...

odium, I'd wait until you get the game before you get depressed, or do you trust PC gamer's reviews that much? I kinda have the feeling like I wanna see for myself.

Well..with all the scans, pictures, demos and quakecon feedback I've seen so far, Quake 4 is a solid 85% for me and I still have to see the single player..it would have to be seriously weak to hurt q4's rating all the way down to 70%.

So, as I said on esr, Chuck Osborn is a fucking q3dm17 pseudo-newbie wannabe chump who needs more than 6 years to figure out what good deathmatching is all about.

He's just like the morons who callvote q3dm17 as soon as they join an osp 1v1 server...hopeless.

Yours truly,

The Man.

odium make up your mind, every thread i read you change your mind, from whether its going to be good or bad, and whether you disregard review scores or it actually means id 'dropped the ball'. just wait till you get it, play it, and keep playing it if you like it. simple.

No matter the outcome, I believe id and raven did their best to make q4 successful and I'm not gonna bash 'em even if the game sucks major cocks (which is very unlikely).

There's only one thing to understand if q4 is not as good as expected..don't fire your employees if you got a winning combo.

Paul Steed, Paul Jacquays and Adrian Carmack (and the rest who are still working at id) made Quake 3 the best deathmatch game ever and no matter who works for id from now on, it'll never be the same as when the gang was all there.

Hell, I even miss John Romero..
