dduudu, duduudu, dudududu, dddddddd - 4 frequent strumming patterns, at least what I was taught..

That's not really accurate though. It all depends on the type of music, and for most music you won't upstroke at all unless it is fairly quick strumming. Or unless the type of music specifically calls for it, like reggae and ska.
