Jackal wrote:The "twist" in the movie was just so terribly ham-fisted all I could do was laugh. Also, your wife was completely right, Jim Carrey absolutely sucked in the movie. Its almost like he has to try to be mildly funny in everything he does, which was a horrible fit for this movie.
Also the director periodically just included a shot of this random dog for some reason.
i thought the movie being meh had more to do with direction that carrey's acting.
the son who instantly goes along with the obsession, the wife whos thoroughly against it but is willing to wipe everything clean at the end, the speed in which carrey's character gets obsessed.
and indeed the crappy dog symbolism.

yah yah... Okay.... I'll admit that I only post the films I really like in this thread. I know the point is to post every single film I've seen, but I don't want to. Yes theres lots of shit films I watch too....(cuz I watch a lot of films.)
So I guess if it makes me seem like a High school cheerleader on E...so be it. All I can say is if I post in this thread...it usually means its a film I'd recommend....and liked it enough to get up off my fat ass and post about it...
and BTW, you hurt my feelings and now you're on my foe list.

Death Sentence: 7/10
Kevin Bacon kicks the shit out of members of a gang that ended his eldest son's life in an initiation killing. Pretty badass. Like the new Jodie Foster movie, The Brave One, only without that whole dyke side of things. (When it's not the biggest feminist in life killing off "bad bad men" it just doesn't feel like it's trying so hard ... and Kevin Bacon's just brutal.) It's got a lot of hilariously graphic killings, and has some interesting (if less than groundbreaking) things to say about vengeance and violence, and holy hell John Goodman's role was unexpected!
Bourne Supremacy: 2/10
I had only seen the first bourne movie, and i've been telling people for ages that all three of these films are utterly awful, but since 2 & 3 were directed by a different guy than the first one i felt like I should give one of them a chance. Bad call. Fucking abominable. As I said earlier in this thread somewhere, I pity people who think this is worthwhile cinema.
3:10 to Yuma: 8/10
The whole western revival this fall (3:10, assassination of jesse james, no country for old men) really interests me, and the fact that AFAIK this was russell crowe's second western after the Sam Raimi semi-send-up The Quick and the Dead made this pretty cool. He plays one of the ultimate badasses, and Christian Bale is a rancher who has nothing left but to prove to himself and his son that he can take a stand for what's right. It's a very modern take on the genre, but it's true enough to its forbears that it always feels more sincere than contrived, and it never loses its gravity (or outright gives it up the way Quick & the Dead did) for more than a second. Frankly, I'd put this up there with Unforgiven; because while i like clint and i like unforgiven, i've always thought it's kinda overrated, perhaps because it was the only serious western of the last decade? Bale and Crowe are excellent, the kid who played Bale's son absolutely blew me away, and the actor who played Angel/Archangel in X-Men 3 redeems himself as Crowe's second in command, who's pretty badass himself.
One of the characters undergoes a sudden, if minor, change right near the end, and I couldn't tell if I bought it or not, but I thoroughly enjoyed this film nonetheless. Not much else to say. Oh yeah, Luke Wilson has a pretty unexpected bit part; looks like he's trying to diversify, but he didn't bring very much to the film except "whoa is that Luke Wilson??" -- not that he did the film any harm, either.
The Matrix: 10/10
Watched it again for the first time in a couple years. Fucking hell I love this movie. Children of Men is the only other film that's ever come close to blowing me away like that.

Wow. I would say that The Number 23 was one of the top 3 worst movies I've seen all year.
I watched it with an amateur conspirator, I guess you had to be there.

A Bronx Tale -a little too trite, not a lot of tension as a result

Rise.Of.The.Foot soldier _ 6/10
True story of a West Ham football top boy/ Hooligan.. to bouncer during The E days.....to English gangster.
Just ok. I liked the hooliganism at the start. It got kinda wank as it went on.

Too bad..I was looking forward to it.

X-3: X-Men United - 7/10
Kind of a meh movie in the beginning but once it picks up, some of the action scenes are great. The "emotional" scenes between the teenage mutants are cringe-worthy at best. The score is fucking amazing, just pure Powell power
