The Host 7/10

Pretty good for a monster flick. Not too many of these manage to be worthy of watching, but I would say this one is worth a rent.

Inland Empire 8/10

By far, David Lynches most bizzare film yet. The story is very very hard to follow, since it seems to be mostly in his " black Lodge" universe. I'm gonna have to watch it again to figure it out more before I can give a proper write up.
For hard-core lynch fans only I'd say though.

would have given it better but somehow the "blank" idea has been played out.
It's too hard for Jim Carrey to not be funny now. and the movie wasn't really to interesting to me... except for Rhona Mitra

menkent wrote:Brick: 8/10 - a film noir set in high school? brilliant. good acting, good story, great concept and well executed. fun stuff.

ps- transformers was underwhelming. they took a pop culture gem and stuffed it into the mold of a standard michael bay summer action turd. superficial romance, big explosions, earth-threatening menace, patriotic speech toward the end, good guys win but leave room for 12334432 sequels that will get progressively worse until French Stewart stars in "Transformers 19: the Deceptulation!!@@!!1" that goes straight to video.
I :lub: Brick. If you like Joseph Gordon Levitt, you should check out the more recently released "The Lookout," which also stars him; those two films make JGL the only actor in two of my all-time 5 favourite movies. And if you liked the director (first timer Rian Johnson), his sophomore effort just wrapped filming and will be coming out sometime next year; it's called The Brothers Bloom, and it's got a solid cast led by Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, and Rachel Weisz.

And I wholeheartedly agree with you about Transformers, as if page 135 didn't make that entirely clear.

The Number 23 - 2/10 COMPLETE shit. I havn't seen a movie this bad in a while.

The Host - 6/10 I just don't think I understand Korean cinema. What was with the comedic mourning scene in the midst of the high drama? Is that typical for Korean cinema?

Gymkata - 7/10 for unintentional hilarity. What a funny movie.

OMFG! Someone else has actually seen Gymkata! Best part of the movie was where Kurt Thomas finds the stone pommel horse in the middle of the lunatic village! :olo:

The Hills Have Eyes 2 Unrated - shit/10
This movie brought new meant to the phrase 'shitty sequel'. Plot so thin as to be transparent, useless story gimmicks, far less gory/disturbing than the remake of 1, gah, this movie just sucks. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

My friends threw a surprise bday party for me last week and that was one of my gifts. We watched it a couple of days ago and I nearly lost my shit a few times. I think one of my favorite parts was this:

*walking through made up multi-national arab state*
"There's a lot of anti-American sentiment here in Parmistan"
*THWACK - Arrow to teh gut*

Ah, you're probably right. I don't think rating it R would make a very huge impact on toy sales for the reason that boys of any age have a fascination with robots blowing shit up and making it gory will only add to the cool factor - but i can't deny your avarage mom and dad won't let little Henry have a toy that promotes gratuitous violence. So yeah.
Because it wasn't gory I was able to take my son and daughter to see it and now my boy has already started asking for the toys. I'm sure there are tens of millions of other parents that fell for the same marketing trap so IMO thye made a good choice.

Hanibal Riseing - Good, but not as good as the hype. 6/10 because I expected more and it really didn't leave me with a feeling of where Hanibal's ways came from. Didn't seem to be a true prequel to the Hanibal we know.

Arthur and the Invisibles - Kids loved it. I actually liked it as well. 9/10 it was good for it's movie type.

Ghost Rider - Sweet effects and nice mythical potential. Could have played on the myth more and his voice and goofyness while in Ghost Rider form was kind of lame, but not too bad. 8/10 Would have been 7/10, but the flaming bike, speed and scortched roads bumped it up to an 8/10. Well worth the time to watch it.

I saw a bunch the last few weeks so here goes:

The Simpsons = 9/10 - As funny as any good episode and it felt like an episode so the pacing was really good.

Clerks 2 = 8/10 - I laughed my fucking ass off. Especially at this part. The donkey scene had me pissing my pants.

Blood Diamond = 9/10 - Like "Lord Of War" this movie really hit me in the gut to remind me that my problems in life are pretty trivial.

Children Of Men = 8/10 - I never knew anything about this movie until I watched it on a plane. Good performances, even from actors I don't like.

Hollowman = 2/10 - What a piece of shit. Some cool visual fx in the lab during the tests but otherwise....delete it. :icon26:

Hostel = 0/10 - Fuck off. And they're making a sequel? :olo:

Is this the one about no children being born for like 20 or 30 years? The misses and I have been thinking about watching that one. Not sure if we wanted to pay the PPV cost to see it.

Hostel = 0/10 - Fuck off. And they're making a sequel? :olo:
Agreed! puke/10 Not even close to it's own hype. If they hadn't hyped it to be so terrifying and awesome it might have been a decent movie, but gotta make those opening day funds I guess. :icon8:

A.I. Artificial Intelligence 6.5/10

The first two acts kept me interested, but the last half hour just bored me and pissed me off. I wish Kubrick had lived long enough to make it himself, that woulda been interesting!

The Aristocrats 8/10

Fucking Hilarious and interesting. It's a documentary about the filthiest joke in the world with tons of different comedians telling it.

The Bourne Ultimatum: 6/10 A bit disappointing but still decent. The story is too thin; there's just enough to string together some chase sequences. No remarkable bad guys. Damon as Bourne is still great, but he doesn't have much to do here. One very memorable fight scene. Not as good as the first two.

Knocked Up - 7/10.

Hilarious, but I think it lacked chemistry between the two main characters. I wish I had kept my eyes shut during certain scenes.

I only pointed out the flaws :smirk:

I watched it with my brother though so that gave it bonus points. Hadn't seen him since last Christmas.
