That would be kind of cool when I'm out in the wilderness.

Speaking of which, here are some photos from when I was in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern MN for the past few days.

If you're going to Finland, I can recommend a ton of places for you. I'm planning a trip back myself next summer so we might even cross paths.

Don't know if they admit registered sex offenders though.

so is this intended for dangerous condition type shooting where they may not be able to retriev the cam?

like lower it down a volcano or take unmanned pics in a very dangerous area?

Not really. It’s a geotag device with the aim being sites like Google and flickr will have a digital DB of images with a GPS pinpoint. Eventually there'll be whole cities photographed and modeled in 3D. I believe there’s already a program which feeds from frickr and can build 3D models of buildings based on just the photos of said building.

I just bought this lens to help with the portrait work I've been doing for people:

Awesome, i've been debating between that one and the 70-200mm f2.8

Lets see some shots with it!!

If you want an all purpose walkabout lens you might consider the same advice I got from Doombrain and go with the 24-105L with IS. I got the 2.8 for portrait and event stuff to handle the lower light conditions.

The 70-200 is a great lens as well - I went with the F/4 version since I didn't need the extra aperture on that one.

You must get lots of giant robots where you live. We hardly ever see them in the UK.

One of the tougher bird in flight shots I've gotten, handheld at 500mm with no image stabilization. This bird had just finished fighting with an aggressive male who had flown too close to the nest where her young were.

Got this mostly for wedding work. It's far too heavy to be walking around with.

When I buy a longer reaching zoom it will be a Canon for sure. The Sigma 50-500 EX series that I am borrowing now is decent, but only sharp at about F8 and above and with no IS, handheld is a pain in the ass.

And the one I am borrowing has no tripod mount on it.

Do you have the 70-200 2.8 DB?

no i don't but it's meant to be good and works very well with tubes as long as they are canon tubes.

Wonderful shots everyone. tnf, you have improved so much and you have some nice equipment to play with now. Jesus Christ, I wish I wasn't a student. I haven't been taking many pictures lately but here are some from the weekend. My friend rented a Ferrari F430 and we were just having fun with it. Enjoy. Here's a video I made of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BMa55Z7D7U (Make sure to watch in HD, shot with a Canon HF S10).

also, did you know there's still only one special kodak film used to photo Ferraris? the Ferrari red is almost impossible to reproduce on digital.
