If you're going to bitch about Nic Cage, at least bring up Next which is currently (or was recently) inducing vomiting in theatres.
And how can you not consider The Rock? Sure, it's a Michael Bay flick and not The Godfather, but it's successful in everything it tries to do, it set the bar for contemporary action films, and if you don't find it entertaining you don't have testicles or a penis.

thats why i commented on his performance.GONNAFISTYA wrote:I haven't seen it. I'll check it out but - again - alot of his movies are good despite the fact he's in them.MKJ wrote:uh. thingy was ok too.. leaving las vegas?
still, his perfomance in matchstick men was pretty good, imo.
the movie also has sam rockwell in it. and he's an utter tool.

Almost exactly what I was going to reply to all these Cage movies.GONNAFISTYA wrote: Is that the one with Cage and the woman from Jurassic Park and all they did was fuck and whenever he wasn't fucking Cage walked around wide-eyed trying his best to look crazy? Please.
Absolutely none of you have given a valid example of good work from Cage...the movies you've listed would have rocked just as hard with someone else cast. The only time I enjoyed Cage's work was in "Raising Arizona"....because (like Keanu Reeves) he's good at playing a dope.
Oh....lemme guess...he did great work in Face Off?
Two N Cage movies that I liked -- Lord of War and Raising Arizona -- were good, but could almost certainly been just as good or better with someone else in them. He fit the part in Arizona well because he looks like a dopey idiot -- how hard is that part to play?
Cage, in every movie, walks around with sullen look on his face like somebody just kicked his puppy -- even in Lord of War he looked like he was about to cry half the time.
Raising Arizona was the first time I ever saw him in a movie, and I loved his character so I thought he was great. Every movie after that has served to lower my opinion of him by notches, to the point where now I cringe to even watch a highly-praised movie if he's in it.
The movie I haven't seen of his is Matchstick Man, and a friend of mine said it was a great movie. I just rented 4 movies last night, but haven't been able to bring myself to get it. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point fairly soon.
But Cage, in movies, about every 5 or 10 minutes, kicks me right out of the film experience, and somehow reminds me that I'm just looking at Nicholas Cage. No matter what part he plays, his character is always almost the same person. The actual lines he has to recite are the only things different about his characters.

The point is that none of his movies have been great as a result of his being in them.
But you're disregarding all the other things I said about him and focusing on that one statement anyway.
edit: and yes, the rock was good. but again, he didn't contribute significantly to that fact IMO. His role could have been replaced not just by a great actor, but by dozens and dozens of other actors -- just about anybody really -- and it still would have been just as good or better.
Plain and simple, my opinion is that he's a shitty actor. All his characters are the same person, with the sole difference being the lines he has to say for that particular role. Same look on his face, same tone of voice, everything.

I never was able to have a high opinion of Leonardo Decaprio ever since he played a retard in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I haven't even watched a movie he was in since that... I can't bring myself to do it.
