So you know how earlier on I was praising the Galaxy S3? Well, turns out I was wrong, it's a piece of shit.

I've had a week or so to live with this phone, and any angst I felt about the iPhone has been eradicated by how palpably unusable Android is on a daily basis.

I wish it wasn't the case, as I truly despise Apple as a company, but I've come to realise that IOS is far and away the better phone system to live with.

The galaxy is fucking massive. You can't do anything one handed unless you have full concentration. The typing, no matter what program you use to help, is utter shit. I emailed a client yesterday, and accidentally typed "bedt regards" at the bottom. I didn't notice it, and happily, Android decided to change it to "Bedtime regards". Funny, but fucking irritating. That's just a small issue as well, as overall, it's an absolutely useless interface that needs constant concentration and correction.

When sending an email yesterday, the client crashed for no reason just as I was sending it. I reopened, checked my sent items, and it wasn't there. I couldn't trust it to have gone out, so I re-sent it (typing it out again, obviously), only to get a reply to the original email two minutes after I'd sent the second.

The app support is just weird. Everything in the Play Store seems to have a minimum 4 star rating, yet at least half of the reviews are 1 star complaints.

Playing music is a fucking chore. While Android is certainly more open than IOS, at least with IOS I can jailbreak and run 'activator' to assign the volume buttons as next track/previous track. No chance on Android, you get some shitty implementation that only works if the phone is unlocked, which makes it pointless.

The phone is also insanely complex in a way no phone should be. I like having a bunch of options on my computer, but on my phone, I just want ti to call people. The 50,000 settings for sound, haptic feedback, fucking screen brightness, colour, vibrance, all of the shitty options that drain the battery, it's just too much.

Oh, and the battery is shit. It doesn't last two days like people claim, it lasts one. Just like the iPhone. The difference being that my iPhone only takes an hour or less to recharge, and the Galaxy takes about two.

The whole experience is that you're just playing with a toy, which would explain why I was initially completely enthralled by it. Once the lustre wears off though, anyone who believes they have an easier life with an Android is fucking kidding themselves.

Understandable complaints i think - haven't got the S3 myself but i know a bunch of folks who do.

Was planning on getting the S4 when my contract is up next summer, but the S3 makes me worried. If it's just as big or bigger than the S3 (chances are that it will be as i understand) i'm entirely unsure if i want it. Actually the sheer size of the thing kinda makes me wonder if the S3 was intended for women, who keep their phones in other places than their pants :smirk:

Anyway, i advise rooting it, sorts out several of your issues with it (battery life will improve drastically for instance).

my S3 lasts about 2 days actually. as for it's size, I've heard other people say that they find it impossible to use one handed. I manage fine.. then again I have long fingers.
it also fits perfectly in my pocket. this might be because theres plenty of room in my pants :(

This is a trend I am seeing. A friend got an S3 and lasted 4 days before returning to her iPhone. I hear a lot of "the screen is huge, I love it" change to "it's tough to do things with one hand but worth it" to then change again to "it's too big for a phone"

People who swear by Andriod have never used iOS properly for any length of time. I am not an Apple fanboy in the slightest (I will never buy a Mac even after extensive use of my sisters) but the iPhone is the balls when it comes to phones. Nothing really comes close.

Lols :)

Battery life is a tricky thing anyways since it also depends on how the user treats the phone - if one leaves it in the charger all night the battery is going to be drained much faster afaik. Or charging it when the battery still has juice, also not very good i heard.

It’s also good practice to take your phone off the charger once it’s done charging. It won’t overcharge or explode, but it might affect the overall life of your battery. Don’t let your phone die every single time you charge it, either, because you won’t be helping the battery percentage indicator, and you might be shortening the life of your battery. Once your phone hits the 30% mark, or the 25% mark (when the battery turns red), you should plug it in and let it start charging. Don’t be afraid to charge your phone frequently, since it’s generally considered good for Li-Ion batteries, but you also don’t need to top off often (i.e. you have 89% when you’re leaving home and you’ll only have five minutes to keep it on the charger before you leave).

indeed, I only charge it when it asks me to (<20/15%) and always to full. also dont use your computer's usb port to charge, its power level fluctuates too much which isnt good for the battery.

I have none of these issues with my S2 running a custom ROM. I get a full day of use out of my battery while auto-syncing several accounts and if you put down your latte and stopped trying to type one-handed, you wouldn't make so many spelling mistakes.

I think an iPhone would be perfect for you.

You're the one getting hysterical and ready to throw out a brand new phone (which we all know you won't) because you're too simple.

Seriously, go buy an iPhone already.

Oh you deleted your post :olo:

When I use the S3, I get the feeling of Apple's impending doom, but not quite yet. I think it's a matter of time before Google nail Android, and then I'll make the switch. It was too early for me this time.

You're really young, I realised I have no business getting into some creepy nerd-war with a disgruntled teenager over his emotional defence of a consumer product.

Oh, Mazda, I bought the phone outright, it's not on contract, so I'm not stuck with it, I'm just going to put it for sale on Gumtree and take the £50 loss on it. Not a big deal, it's back in the box in perfect condition, and my sim is back in my iPhone 4s.

Your hysterical rant only a few posts above is about as emotional as one can get over a consumer product. Would you like me to quote you again or can you handle scrolling up the page a bit?
